What's the office layout like at Rocket Software?
Rocket Software in Emeryville, CA, is the north half of the 9th floor at 2200 Powell Street. It has a beautiful, unobstructed view of San Francisco Bay, the city of San Francisco, the GG Bridge, Mt. Tamalpais, etc. The east half of the office is glass-walled offices and a large conference room, the west half is standard cubicles.
What benefits does Rocket Software provide?
Medical is through Blue Cross of Massachusetts. Previously we had 100% medical coverage; now we have to pay a small percentage of it. Dental as is typical is limited. Limited vision. FSA. 401K is still matched by employer up to 6%.
What's the company culture like at Rocket Software?
We were bought by Rocket a little while ago, along with several other small development companies. Management does a lot of touchy-feelie stuff about being "One Rocket" and breaking down the barriers between the various offices, which has the unfortunate effect of breaking up good working groups, despite our group being one of the few profitable ones. As we age out, our jobs get pushed to Asia. IT is understaffed and everything hardware gets moved to the main office in Massachusetts. Platform independence is grudgingly allowed, but not exactly welcomed. Basically, since being bought, we have been squeezed. Hoping to keep my job for a while longer, because it's in a good location.
