Asked to the IT Department at S&W Seed Company

  • 24/7/365. Even with vacation time I am expected to answer to emergencies (or whatever someone deems an emergency) due to no backup IT person available (and no approval to hire). IT is seen as a money sink and is treated as a do-nothing department (unless something breaks, then I'm not doing my job).

Asked to the IT Department at S&W Seed Company

  • It is one person doing the job of a system admin, network admin, DBA, help desk, backup manager, CTO (strategic planning, finance forecasting), and on occasion, a moving company (because the corporate office has changed addresses 3+ times in 3 years with expectation that IT will also move furniture). There is no backup operator for the sole IT coverage.
