  • Overview

Congratulations on your switch to our eDynamo EMV solution! This article will guide you through the physical conversion. Prior to switching, your Account Manager will set up your new payment gateway, as well as send you an app update.

For each terminal you will need:

    [email protected]

    (1) eDynamo Card Reader (included)

    (1) Pro EDBT eDynamo Bracket Kit (included)

    (1) Right-Angle Lightning Cable (or USB-C, depending on your iPad model) (included)

    (1) Dual-Port Power Adapter(included)

A small and standard size screwdriver (or drill)

    A label maker

A hex key, toothpick, or other object at least 3 inches long and less than 3/32" in diameter

A Manager with access to Settings in SALIDO

Your Guided Access passcode, if enabled

    Assembling the Reader

Step 1: Gather all materials, ensuring that the terminals are powered on and charged.

Step 2: Update all terminals if there is an update available.

Step 3:Unpackage the eDynamo reader. Hold down the pairing button on the reader to ensure it has sufficient charge. If dead, charge with the included Micro-USB cable. This cable is not compatible with the bracket, so feel free to discard it or repurpose for another use. The eDynamo reader will be charged with the USB/iOS Y Cable included in thePro eDynamo Bracket Kit and the Right-Angle Lightning Cable (or USB-C).

Step 4:Unpackage the Pro eDynamo Bracket Kit. Follow the included instructions until Step 4. If needed, the instructions can be found in this article's attachment.

Step 5:(Recommended) Create a label with the serial number (S/N) of each card reader. This is the only way you will be able to identify each reader once they are fully assembled. The serial number can be found on a white label on each reader. Attach the label to the back of the intended bracket as shown.

Step 6: Remove the iDynamo reader and bracket from each terminal, saving at least (2) screws to secure the new eDynamo bracket.

Step 7:Insert the separate Right-Angle cable into the iPad. The Lightning end of theUSB/iOS Y Cable is not sufficient to charge your terminal and should not be used. Feel free to bend it back (as shown) and secure it with a twist tie or zip tie.

Step 8: Secure the eDynamo bracket to the terminal enclosure with (2) of the screws previously usedto secure the iDynamo bracket.

Step 9:Plug both the Right Angle andUSB/iOS Y Cables into the Dual-Port Power Adapter to charge.

    Pairing the Reader

Step 1:Navigate to the Settings of the iPad and ensure that Bluetooth is on. Note that when enabled, you may see a list of eDynamo readers. Do not pair them here. Pairing is done within the app itself on each terminal.

    Additionally:

Navigate to Display & Brightness and ensure that brightness is set to 50% or below. Bluetooth increases the iPad's energy consumption. With SALIDO running, Bluetooth on and a brightness greater than 50%, the terminal may not be able to charge as quickly as it uses energy, ultimately resulting in loss of power.

Step 2:Open SALIDO, note that the notification indicating that there is no reader paired in the top right.

Step 3:Sign in, then navigate to Main Menu>Settings>Card Reader.

Step 4:Using the hex key (or similar tool), press the pairing button on the reader through the bracket. You'll feel a slight depression. Press until a blue light begins to blink.

Step 4:Once detected by the terminal, the serial number of the reader will display in the list of pairable readers. Release the pairing button immediately.

Step 5:Select the serial number of the reader. You may be prompted to enter a pairing code. Enter "000000" and select pair.

Step 6:Once paired, you are ready to begin using the reader!

    Troubleshooting

The eDynamo is not listed in the list of pairable readers:

Ensure the reader is charged. A green light on the right side will confirm if the device is on.

Toggle Bluetooth off, then on in the iPad settings. This will refresh its ability to detect other devices.

Refresh the list of pairable readers in the top right of the list by selecting the refresh icon.

  • For each SALIDO Terminalleveraging the MagTek iDynamo Credit Card Reader, there are five total pieces of equipment in the power supply chain:

    Power outlet

    Power adapter

    Micro USB charging cable

    MagTek iDynamo Credit Card Reader

    iPad

In order to properly diagnose charging issues, a little trial-and-error is often required to rule out each of the above components of the power supply chain to identify exactly which piece of equipment is causing the problem. Here are a few things to try:

Plug the power adapter into a different outlet

Swap out or replace the power adapter that connects the charging cord to the power outlet.

Swap out or replace the Micro USB charging cable that connects the power adapter to the MagTek Credit Card Reader.

Remove the mounting bracket and disconnect, then reconnect the MagTek Credit Card Reader

Swap out the MagTek Credit Card Reader for another

Use a toothpick to gently clean the iPad Lightning Port of any dust or debris, and make sure the MagTek is securely seated.

Connect the iPad directly to a power source via an Apple-approved Lightning Cable

If issues persist, please contact SALIDO Support at [email protected] or (855) 879-7595.

  • SALIDO uses printer-driven cash drawers. The Terminal sends a message to the receipt printer via Wi-Fi and the printer, in turn, sends an electrical impulse to the cash drawer via a physical connection. The most common causes of problems opening a cash drawer are the printer being turned off, the printer being offline, the printer being physically disconnected from the cash drawer, or the Terminal being on the incorrect Wi-Fi network.

    Please confirm the following:

    Is the receipt printer on?

Is the cable connecting the printer to the cash drawer securely seated in both the port of the cash drawer and the port of the printer?

Is the Terminal assigned to the correct Printer?

Is the Terminal on the correct wifi network?

    To confirm iPad Network Settings:

Exit the SALIDO POS app by clicking the iPad Home Button

    Open the Settings app

Select Wi-Fi from the left side navigation

Confirm the appropriate SALIDO specific SSID is selected and listed at the top of the right side of the screen

If unsure of the correct SSID, please contact your Network Management Team

There should be a blue checkmark next to the network name

If there a No Internet Connection warning under the SSID, please contact your Network Management Team

After confirming the above, exit the Settings app

    Reopen the SALIDO POS

    Attempt to pop the drawer

If issues persist, please contact SALIDO Support at [email protected] or (855) 879-7595 for further troubleshooting.

  • The SALIDO POS and SALIDO KDS apps both run continuously and require a significant amount of power. When charging, a lightning bolt symbol will appear over the battery icon in the upper right-hand corner of the iPad Home Screen. Please note that the charging icon may be present without the battery percentage increasing. Depending on usage and device settings, the app can potentially drain power at the same rate as the device is charging.

When an iPad is not charging as expected, please ensure all hardware is undamaged, properly connected, and configured appropriately.

Ensure all power adapters are rated for 12W. The Apple 12W USB Power Adapters (with foldable prongs) are often mistakenly replaced with the smaller 5W Power Adapter (with fixed prongs) intended for use with the iPhone. The smaller adapters do not pass the same level of charge and can struggle to maintain battery levels for iPads.

The MicroUSB cables connecting the power adapter to the MagTek iDynamo Credit Card Readers can become damaged from wear and tear of the rigors of regular restaurant use and are the most common cause of charging issues. Inspect all cables for loose connections, pronounced kinks in the cabling, or exposed wiring. Swap out or replace a cable with another to test for failure.

Inspect the MicroUSB port on the back of the MagTek iDynamo Credit Card Reader itself for physical damage or loose connections. The port where the MicroUSB cable connects can be damaged and come loose from the casing when charging cables are pulled abruptly or snagged. Damaged MagTeks may need to be replaced.

Check the iPad LightningPort for debris and ensure the Lightning connection of the MagTek iDynamo Credit Card Reader itself is not loose or corroded. Damaged MagTeks may need to be replaced.

If the Lightning port of the iPad is damaged or corroded and will not take a charge directly from an Apple-approved Lightning cable, the iPad may need to be replaced.

The SALIDO POS app will display the error message "MagTek swiper not detected" in the top right of the screen if the iPad is not physically recognizing that a card reader is connected. Disconnect and reconnect the MagTek Credit Card Reader to re-establish the connection. If this is not successful, restart the iPad.

Power strips and/or surge protectors should be high-quality and rated to support electronic equipment.

In the iPad settings, confirm that screen brightness is set to 50% or below.

  • The Terminal is Offline error indicates the Terminal is operating in Offline Mode. This is typically caused by a complete disruption of an Internet connection while the Local Area Network (LAN) remains functioning. In Offline Mode, printing and payments remain operational in a limited capacity. However, the Terminals will not be able to communicate with the Cloud, and by extension, the other Terminals.

Each Terminal will behave as an island. Check data will not be shared between devices, and the entire life cycle of any given check will need to exist on a single device. In this scenario, we recommend each member of the team select a single Terminal for their exclusive use until Internet connectivity is restored.

All payments taken in Offline Mode are considered Good Faith Payments. Payment details will be captured and stored locally on individual devices, but cannot be verified against a guests bank or credit card provider until Internet connectivity is restored. Please be advised, there is always a chance payment taken in Good Faith could ultimately be declined once the details are verified.

In the case of a prolonged Internet Service Disruption, please contact your Network Management Team and/or Internet Service Provider.

  • Guided Access is an iOS feature designed with educational software in mind that locks iPads into a single application. Once enabled, Guided Access runs in sessions that can be started and ended by triple-clicking the iPad Home Button and entering a user-defined Guided Access Passcode. Any time the SALIDO POS app is exited or backgrounded on any device, syncing is disrupted and checks can become locked, as the system recognizes them as in use until the sync is completed. To prevent this, it is strongly recommended that all operators leverage this feature to ensure the SALIDO POS app stays open and running at all times.

    To enable Guided Access:

    Exit the SALIDO POS app

    Open the Settings app

Select General from the left side navigation

Select Accessibility from the options on the right

Scroll to the bottom of the list and select Guided Access

Toggle on Guided Access if it is not already enabled

Triple-click the iPad Home Button to begin a Guided Access session

As necessary, triple-click the iPad Home Button and enter the passcode to end a Guided Access session

  • To prevent duplicate orders, theSALIDO POS by design does not allow a check to be accessed by more than one Terminal at the same time. Additionally, as a cloud-based Point of Sale system, SALIDO Terminals are constantly syncing their check data to the cloud and with each other via the Internet.Attempting to open a check on Terminal B that is already open on Terminal A will yield an "Unable to Access Check" error message.

This constant syncing is maintained while the app is open and running onall Terminals. If the app is exited (or "backgrounded") on even a single Terminal, or if an iPad goes to sleep, the SALIDO POS stops running on that Terminal, and syncing to all devices is disrupted. For this reason, we strongly recommend that all operators leverage Guided Access to ensure the SALIDO POS app stays open and running at all times.

    Unable to Access Check Message

The check being accessed is currently in use on another Terminal. Please attempt access again when the check is no longer in use.

    Check Recovery

If a Terminal becomes inoperable (e.g. thrown down a flight of stairs, knocked into a sink, etc.) checks that were in use and/or syncing at that time may become inaccessible on other Terminals. In these extreme scenarios, Check Recovery can be used to Force or Override checks from the compromised device. Once Check Recovery is used, a check will never again be accessible on the Terminal from which it was recovered.

Check Recovery pulls the last complete version of a given check from the cloud and overwrites any data that was not fully synced to prevent data corruption from a damaged device. This can (and often does) result in some data loss, as the recovered version of the check is not always 100% up to date. Lost data typically includes Menu Items and Payments that appear to "fall off" the check.

Any data lost during this process cannot be recovered. For this reason, Check Recovery should only be usedas a last resort method of recovering check information when a device becomes completely inoperable and checks cannot otherwise be accessed.

A Check is Locked on the POS

A check will appear Locked on the Floor Plan View and Checks View when it has been recovered (Overridden or Forced) from a given Terminal. Check Recovery is intended for use when a device has been physically corrupted, and the software prevents the Terminal from which a check was Overridden from ever accessing that specific check again.

All other terminals will be able to access the check except for the terminal from which it was overridden.

"Check #### is no longer accessible on this Terminal" Error Message

The check being accessed has been recovered (Overridden or Forced) from the Terminal at which access is being attempted. The Terminal from which a check was recovered will never again be able to access the recovered Check.

  • From time to time it will be necessary to locate a Guest Receipt from partial or incomplete information about the check itself. For example, a single check is split by four (4) guests. One of those guests needs a copy of their receipt, but the only information available is the amount of the charge to their specific card. The Checks section of the SALIDO Bridge is best utilized to locate checks based on Check Level parameters (Date of Check, Server, Check Total, Table Number, etc.), so this type of request poses a bit of a challenge.

In these caseswhen specific pieces of information about a Paymentare available(e.g. the Last Four Digits or an Authorization Code) as opposed to details about a Checkthe best tool for matching those details against a SALIDO check number is the Payment Detail Report.

In this example, we will generate a Payment Detail Report filtered for Payment Type > Credit Card:

Login to the SALIDO Bridge and select Reports from the main navigation

Select Payment Detail from the dropdown menu in the top left field

Select the appropriate date in the top middle field

The Payment Detail Report will auto-run and populate data in the lower portion of the screen

Filter for Payment Type > Credit Card

Select FILTERS from the far right side of the Report Header line

Uncollapse the Filter Category PAYMENT TYPE

Deselect ALL Payment Types except Credit Card

ClickUpdateat the bottom of the Filters menu

Add or Remove Columns as desired

Select COLUMNS from the far right side of the Report Header line

Check or Uncheck data points as desired

Click Update at the bottom of the Filters menu

Select the yellow-orange Three Barsicon next to the Report Name

Scroll down to Print & Export

Select AS .PDF or AS .XLSX

With this report in hand, we can manipulate the data in Excel to search or filter for the Last Four Digits of the card number, Auth Code, or whichever pieces of information are available and locate the Check Number with which the Payment is associated.

Simply enter that Check Number into the Checks section of the SALIDO Bridge, and we have our Guest Receipt!

NOTE: Although the steps above specifically filter for credit card payments, the same process can be followed to drill down on Gift Card Payments, Cash Payments, Custom Payments, or any other tender type. Play around with the report parameters (Rows, Columns, and Filters) to find what best suits individual needs.
