Executive Bio
Mel DeJarnette joined Select Sires in 1990 as a reproductive specialist after receiving a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science at Virginia Tech. In this capacity Mel was responsible for all A.I. and reproductive management training and education. He also conducted in-house research to find more fertility-friendly cryopreservation procedures and novel semen evaluation procedures to determine semen quality more precisely. DeJarnette also led novel research efforts to improve estrus synchronization protocols and the fertility of sex-sorted semen. These research efforts have culminated in numerous proprietary semen processing technologies for Select Sires and over 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications. In 2012, Mel accepted the supervisory role over semen processing. Along with his team of employees, they process in excess of 25 million straws of semen annually and have consistently led the industry in sire fertility rankings for more than a decade.
