Enthusiastic and ready to face the world with my journalism degree, I started my career as a Police Reporter in central Illinois. Just a few days in, there was a murder in this small town. In talking to grieving families, interviewing the state's attorney, and defense teams, I went from a recent college grad to a trusted source of truth in the blink of an eye. I would cover seven murder trials in only 11 months, learning an invaluable lesson on the importance of empathy and active listening.
