Incentives so we have things to work towards or look forward to, bonuses each year besides the annual raise
People are being promoted with little training on what their job is. Underlings are training superiors and being osid peanuts
Raises depend on each stores profit/loss not solely on employee merit.

the company is closing stores and their starting wage is a lot lower then others now
