Dr. Padmanabh P. Bhatt, Ph.D., has been the Chief Scientific Officer and Senior Vice President of Intellectual Property at Supernus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Former Name: Shire Laboratories, Inc.) since March 2012. Dr. Bhatt is responsible for the Pharmaceutical Research and Development functions as well as Intellectual Property. He is a member of the executive team that transitioned over from Shire Laboratories, Inc. Previously, he served as a Vice President of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Supernus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 2005 to March 2012. Dr. Bhatt served as a Vice President of Advanced Drug Delivery at Shire since January 2003. Dr. Bhatt's previous experience includes being the Vice President of R&D and Chief Technology Officer at Point Biomedical Corporation in San Carlos, California and Director of Technical Development at ALZA Corporation (now a Johnson & Johnson company) in Mountain View, California. Dr. Bhatt also held positions as Group Leader of Novel Drug Delivery at Dow Corning Corporation in Midland, Michigan and Senior Scientist at Hercon Laboratories in York, Pennsylvania. Overall, Dr. Bhatt has more than 19 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in the fields of drug delivery, controlled release, product and technology development, clinical PK and intellectual property. Dr. Bhatt has B.Pharm. and M.Pharm. degrees from the University of Bombay, India. He then studied under Dr. Takeru Higuchi at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, USA where he earned MS and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
