  • Food tastes best when it’s fresh! We let the Mother Nature dictate what we should eat + when. We plan our seasonal menu a year in advance, and we work with our farmers to understand what they’re growing and what we can create a market for, and then Chef Stebner gets to work on recipes.

  • While many of our ingredients are certified organic, not all of our small farmers have the resources to obtain organic certification (it’s expensive + time-consuming!). In fact, a lot of our farmers abide by organic practices, even if they haven’t gone through formal certification. For this reason, we vet our sources + personally visit each to understand their practices before choosing to serve their produce. In this way, we can serve the highest quality ingredients while supporting smaller farms. We have a very intricate family of farmer partnerships across our market, sourcing the freshest ingredients regionally + locally. Each of our farmers have developed a specific set of standards to farm each ingredient in the most sustainable and thoughtful way possible. That said, if you check out our menu, you'll see "organic" in front of any ingredient that is formally certified.

  • We don’t have commissaries (read: off-site commercial kitchens)?—?our team peels, dices, slices, spices and roasts these ingredients in-house every day, and you can see them in action in our open kitchens.   • We are committed to continuously improving the well-being of farm animals. We worked with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ® on our broiler chicken welfare policy. By 2024 or sooner, we will only source our chicken from farms that have earned Global Animal Partnership (GAP) certification or that are certified by another third party audited animal welfare program that meets GAP’s standards on breed and housing conditions (light, litter, space, and enrichment). Also by 2024, all of our chicken will be processed using CAS, which is widely considered more humane.

  • Our fresh produce is prepared in-house every day, using whole fruits and vegetables delivered that morning. The menu is locally and regionally sourced, changing 5 times a year to incorporate seasonal and regional ingredients and flavors. Fresh ingredients make the job of a chef much easier. Our suppliers: are either organic or practice integrated pest management (IPM) humanely raise poultry that is antibiotic-free, cage-free and fed a vegetarian diet with no animal byproducts produce cheese that’s organic, local, and free of antibiotics and RBGH And all of these sources are right there for you to see on the source list in each sweetgreen location.

From the seed to the store, we’re involved in every step of the supply chain, working with farmers we know and partners we trust. We meet farmers before we meet landlords, and we’ve built a steady roster of year-round suppliers, and then our seasonal menu gives us the opportunity to work with smaller farms who grow unique, local ingredients, like Jim Ward’s Hubbard squash in Boston. On any given day, our locations serve product from upwards of 200 sources.

Tomatoes and dressing can make tortilla chips soggy and less-than-enjoyable, so in the interest of preserving the best-possible sweetgreen experience, we leave the salads unmixed.
