Dr. Christopher Stolte, also known as Chris, is a Co-Founder of Tableau Software, Inc. and has been its Technical Advisor since August 2016. Dr. Stolte served as the Chief Development Officer of Tableau Software, Inc. from May 2010 to August, 2016 and was responsible for product strategy, product design and engineering. He spent six years researching the analysis and exploration of multidimensional databases at Stanford University, culminating in the Polaris system which was the basis for Tableau's first products. Dr. Stolte served as a Vice President of Engineering at Tableau Software, Inc. For the last five years, Chris has been researching the analysis and exploration of large, complex databases at Stanford University. This research resulted in ten landmark research publications and two large-scale visualization systems. He was also Chief Technical Officer and co-founder of BeeLine Systems, a visualization software company that developed a revolutionary map rendering system. Before joining Stanford, Dr. Stolte worked as an engineer for several prominent software companies. He serves as a Member of Technical Advisory Board at GraphLab Inc. Chris is a co-inventor on five software patents related to information visualization. He has been a Director of Tableau Software, Inc. since 2003. Dr. Stolte holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University and a B.S. in Computer Science from Simon Fraser University.
