Executive Bio
Mr. Carl M. Nelson has been Senior Vice President of Development and Construction at Corporate Office Properties Trust since 2009. Mr. Nelson served as Vice President of Construction Services at COPT Development & Construction Services, LLC. He served as Senior Vice President of Development and Construction at Corporate Office Properties Trust and leads its combined development and construction disciplines on a large share of its portfolio. He has more than 30 years of progressive experience in development and construction management. Since 1998, he has directed and managed the development and construction of 35+ projects and over four million square feet of office space. From 1988 to 1998, he served as Manager of Construction for Potomac Capital Investment Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of PEPCO. Mr. Nelson provided development services for various commercial, residential, and alternative energy projects, including build-to-suit offices, development of residential communities, and hydroelectric and solar powered generating stations. From 1978 to 1988, he served as Senior Construction Manager for PEPCO and Burns & Roe. He supervised major civil, mechanical and electrical contracts for the construction and maintenance of fossil fueled power plants. He is a Member of the Howard County UW Partnership Board. He is active in a number of professional and civic organizations including NAIOP and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He coordinated the United Way Campaign at COPT for six years. He is an Accredited LEED Professional. He is a 2003 graduate of Leadership Howard County and serves as President of his Homeowner's Association. Mr. Nelson earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
