Executive Bio
Mr. John Richard Pinion, II, has been the Chief Quality Operations Officer and Executive Vice President of Analytical Sciences and Research at Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. since July 13, 2015 and January 2016 respectively and served as its Senior Vice President of Analytical Sciences & Research. Mr. Pinion is responsible for the overall quality operations and analytical sciences, including Quality management of all GxP, Compliance, Validation, QC GMP, QC Clinical and QC Research. Mr. Pinion also participate in translational research, business development and strategic planning activities as a key member of Ultragenyx's executive leadership team. He serves as Senior Vice President of Global Quality & Compliance at Roche. He served as Senior Vice President of Quality and Compliance at Genentech Inc. Mr. Pinion has over 26 years of global experience providing executive leadership and expertise in quality and manufacturing management of biologic, pharmaceutical and device operations in Asia, Europe and the Americas. He has held leadership roles in Quality & Compliance, Manufacturing and Engineering living and working in multiple regions including North America, Europe and Asia. He served as Vice President of External Quality of Genentech Inc. since July 18, 2005. He was responsible for setting Genentech's domestic and international long-term outsourcing strategies for bulk manufacturing, filling, packaging and logistics. Mr. Pinion joined Genentech from Baxter International, where he held several leadership positions including, most recently, Vice President of Quality, Renal, Cellular Therapies and Baxter Japan. He served as Senior Vice President and Global Head of Quality and Compliance for Roche/Genentech Pharma Technical Operations. He was responsible for all Biotech and Pharmaceutical Quality and GMP compliance activities across Europe, Asia and the Americas. Prior, Mr. Pinion served as Vice President of Quality, Global Systems and North American Operations of Baxter BioScience. He serves as Independent Director of Aroa Biosurgery Limited. He also served as Director of Quality, Medical Device Manufacturing of Imagyn, Medical, Inc. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University.
