  • The Universal Dollar (UPUSD) is a USD backed stablecoin issued by the Universal Protocol. This is part of a new universal transparent reserve standard that introduces digital assets to the world via the Universal Protocol Platform.

UPUSD is the first stablecoin to be listed on Uphold, and is backed 1:1 by the U.S. dollar. It is also the first stablecoin of its kind to be minted on-chain with every verifying transaction written to the Ethereum public blockchain so that all users can see and verify UPUSD is 100% percent backed with U.S. dollars. U.S. dollars are held at banks located in the United States with the intention of being eligible for FDIC pass-through deposit insurance, subject to applicable limitations.

  • In addition to the key transparency features, eligible holders of UPUSD outside the US may be able to access a potential annual return of up to 10%, through CredEarn *, a third-party application on the Uphold platform.

UPUSD also features these revolutionary attributes:

Recoverability: Remembering a complex private key may be intimidating for the average bank account holder; UPUSD users can recover their private key and reclaim assets if needed.

Inheritability: Users will soon be able to nominate beneficiaries who may 'call' the assets after prolonged account dormancy. The exact period of dormancy and the address will be configured during wallet instantiation.

Full transparency: Every time a user purchases USD on the Uphold platform, they can initiate an exchange and request new minting of UPUSD. The new UPUSD is instantly minted on the Uphold reserve, and a record of this transaction is recorded on the Ethereum blockchain.

*Uphold is not a lender, loan broker, or loan arranger and is not offering anyone advice or assistance in obtaining a loan. CredEarn is a third party product subject to additional terms and conditions. Only certain digital assets are eligible for CredEarn; Not available in all jurisdictions. • The Universal Protocol Platform is creating a common universal language that allows distinct blockchains and token-based projects to interact freely and frictionlessly. Unlike other initiatives designed to make Bitcoin interoperable with Ethereum, UPBTC differs in a few important respects.

UPBTC is architected with institutional level security in mind. Attackers cannot create arbitrary new proxy tokens to spend on the networks. The Universal Protocol Platform contains a request system that can manage whitelists and revoke access to address critical security issues associated with compromised keys.

UPBTC works seamlessly with the Universal Protocol Token (UPT), designed to allow for quick, low cost conversion of UPBTC to Bitcoin and other digital assets.

UPBTC is designed as a smart bookkeeping system that logs deposits and withdrawals on a smart contract.

An audit report containing bar lists is sent to GBI by the vaulting partners. In addition, an internationally recognized auditing firm audits all of the precious metal holdings on a quarterly basis. Each broker-dealer will confirm precious metal bar holdings with GBI on an aggregate basis and report individual holdings at the customer level through their existing platform.
