Dirk Hohndel — Chief Open Source Officer and Vice President at VMware

Mr. Dirk Hohndel has been Chief Open Source Officer and Vice President of VMware, Inc. since June 2016. Mr. Hohndel joined VMware, Inc. in 2016. He served as President and Chief Technical Officer of SuSE Linux AG. Mr. Hohndel serves in the Software and Solutions group and owns Linux and Open Source Strategy, helping the different business groups at Intel in addressing the challenges and opportunities these disruptive technologies are Intel's business and the IT industry as a whole. He served as chief Linux and open source technologist at Intel, where he had served since 2001. Mr. Hohndel has been active in the Linux space since its earliest days. He served as Chief Technology Officer of SuSE and as Vice President of The XFree86 Project, Inc. Prior to his position at SuSE, Mr. Hohndel served as Unix Architect at Deutsche Bank and before that, he served as a Senior Software Engineer for AIB Software Corporation and PLATINUM technology. He has been a Member of Advisory Board of Revolution Analytics, Inc. since March 2008. He also served as Member of Advisory Board of Spikesource, Inc. He has been Director of The Linux Foundation since April 2017. Mr. Hohndel holds a Diploma in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Wurzburg, Germany.
