Dr. Martin J. Vanderploeg, also known as Marty, Ph.D., has been the President and Chief Operating Officer at Workiva Inc. since December 12, 2014 and served as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Workiva LLC from 2008 to December 2014. Dr. Vanderploeg served as the Founder, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Engineering Animation, Inc. He also served as Chief Technology Officer of Engineering Animation, Inc. from 1989 to 1999. He co-founded Engineering Animation, Inc. in 1988 after amassing ten years of technical consulting experience in the engineering community. Prior to Engineering Animation, Inc., he engaged in contract research for several major companies, including Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp., Chrysler Corp., American Trucking Association and General Dynamics. Dr. Vanderploeg served as Secretary from June 1990 to November 1995 and as a Co-General Manager of the Software Division from October 1997 to August 1999. He has been a Director at Workiva Inc. since December 12, 2014. He served as a director of Engineering Animation, Inc. He served as a Member of Advisory Board at Colonnade Advisors LLC. He taught mechanical engineering at the University of Iowa and was an associate professor with Iowa State University. Dr. Vanderploeg has authored 19 publications in the area of design optimization and vehicle dynamics. He earned a BS, MS and PhD in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University.
