Frequently Asked Questions About Zinio

  • With the launch of the latest ZINIO mobile apps and desktop reader, previous versions will be discontinued. Previous versions include:

    iOS and Android app versions 4.0 or earlier

    ZR4

    ZR5

    Win8

    Please note that we can no longer guarantee stability or support for these discontinued versions. As new issues will not be available on discontinued versions, to continue to enjoy new issues of your subscriptions and your favourite magazines please upgrade to new Desktop Reader (which supports on and offline reading) or you can also read on zinio.com and Android or iOS apps V4.1 and above.

    If you have already upgraded, no further action is needed.

    With this update, we will continue to add new features and functionality to enhance your online and offline reading. However, there are a few limitations as a result of this upgrade:

    Bookmarks from previous versions will not transfer to the new version

    Your magazine library will require a one-time re-download of stored issues and a re-archive of hidden issues

    Recorded Books have informed us that after some further fixes on their side they are now estimating 4 days to clear the queue.

    When checking out RB digital magazines, Patrons are reporting that these do not appear in ZINIO apps or website (they appear immediately in RB Digital Apps). We have reported this issue to Recorded Books, we understand that they are investigating how to provide this feature on their new platform and are waiting for an estimated resolution time.

  • If you recently upgraded your app to Powered by Zinio Pro version 1.16 or above and can not sign in it is necessary to re-register and set a password on our new platform, this will allow you to access and continue to enjoy your subscription/recent back issues. There are two versions of the app so please follow the instructions listed below carefully:

    1) Go to Account > Tap on Sign in. Do you see these options? If yes tap on Print + Digital Subscriberto enter your email and password or for help please follow this article

    Sign into your account

    Go to Account > Preferences >Sync your Library > Sync Now > This will refresh with our servers and ensure that all magazines are displayed in your account.Please do not close the app during this process..

    Double check on our website that you have an active subscription for the magazine

    If a magazine was archived on iOS version 3.4 or below, please contact CS to have this restored to your account.

  • In general Zinio is compatible with

    PCs and Macs:We support current version and two previous versions of Mac and Window Operating Systems. This does not mean that it will not work on previous versions but is not optimised for these and any issues identified are not supported by ZINIO

    Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) and up via our app downloaded onGoogle Play

    iOS v10.3 and above.

    Although most of our current titles are available, some back issues and certain titles have not yet been converted for use with our newer platforms. We are working to make them available as soon as possible. When they become available, they will appear automatically on your device.

  • It is possible to view the library in different ways:

    Magazines: shows all magazines (downloaded and not downloaded) excluding magazines which have been archived

    Bookmarks: shows all bookmarks

    Downloaded: only shows downloaded magazines (both archived and unarchived) (only these magazines take space on your device)

    Archived: filters the library to only show archived magazines(downloaded and not downloaded)

  • If you need to restore your device to factory settings (or due to an app upgrade) then it is possible to restore iTunes guest purchases. To do this:

    Firstly double check that you are logged into the correct iTunes accountand you have purchased a magazineunder that Apple ID

    In the app go toAccount>Restore iTunes Purchases

    TapRestore

    Please then go to Preferences > Sync your Library > Sync Now

    Go toReadand you should be able todownloadyour issues.

    If this is not the case, please close the application and open it again to make sure theReadmenu reflects the latest information.

    (Please note this may take several attempts across 24 hours)

  • In the event that you are missing a magazine from your library please

    Refresh the library

    Double check the magazine had not been archived

    Restore iTunes and/or Google Play Guest Purchase Purchase (this may take several attempts across 24 hours)

    Go to Account > Preferences >Sync your Library > Sync Now > This will refresh with our servers and ensure that all magazines are displayed in your account.Please do not close the app during this process.

    Double check that you have an active subscription. After completing the above checks please send us a receipt for this subscription including start and finish dates.

    NOTES

    If you made the purchase as a guest iTunes or GooglePlay user please got toAccount>User >Sign Inbefore completing the above steps.

    Notes related to web pop-up inviting to add Zinio to home screen:

    if it appears on the homepage for the first time and isn't closed by the user, just ignored, it will be appearing on other pages such as sign-in page, product page, etc., as well;

    once it's closed by the user, it won't appear on other pages until the user clears her/his data and visits again Zinio homepage

    Firefox

    PWA supported and tested.

    if the user reaches 2 GB limit of downloaded issues, will be asked if wants to use more disk space

    Internet Explorer

    IE does not support PWA.

    Edge

    Meanwhile PWA is supported, we have not yet tested due to the low percentage of users on Edge. On top of that, as you can see below, we only support mobile and tablet devices, so the percentage would still be less significant.

    Samsung

    Meanwhile PWA is supported we have not yet tested due to the low percentage of users on Samsung.

    iOS BROWSERS

    Safari

    PWA supported and tested.Nevertheless we temporarily turned it off until stakeholders make a decision because Safari has a storage limitation of 50MB and that is not enough to download even one magazine.

    iPhone and iPad don't allow PWA to work on any browser except their native Safari browser. Since we are switching it off on Safari due to the limitations mentioned above, that means PWA is not available on iPhones and iPads as per today.

  • To access you Zinio Accountthrough your Kindle Fire ensure you follow the instructions below from your Kindle Fire Device.

    Go to Settings (From the home screen of your device, put your finger on the top of the screen and swipe down to see the Settings option)

    Go to Applications

    Go to Apps from Unknown Sources (allow installation of apps that are not from the Appstore) > Select On

    Click to Download the Zinio app APK (Ensure you tap on the link directly from your Kindle Fire)

    To open and install the download, open the browser's menu and click on "Downloads", you should see the Zinio file on this list. Once the download is complete, tap the file and select "Install" and then press "Open" when the installation is complete.

    You're all set!

    You can check which publications are compatible with your device by going to www.zinio.com and searching for the title. Each title lists the platforms that it's compatible with. Keep in mind that there are restrictions on adult publications.

  • If you have more than one Zinio account, we can merge them together so that you'll be able to access all your publication in the same account.

    Let us know what email addresses your accounts are registered to and clearly state which email address you prefer as your master Zinio login. Once merged, you will be able to view all your magazines.

  • To download a magazine to your device:

    Tap on the cover of the magazine

    While the issue is downloading, the magazine will open, allowing you to start reading it, as it fully downloads.

    To stop the downloading:

    Tap on Downloaded tab

    Tap on Select > Tap on the cover of the magazine

    Tap on Delete and Confirm

    NOTES

    Tap on> Download to only download the magazine (and not open it).

    By going toLibrary > Magazines > Select up to 10 magazines >Download it is possible to add 10 magazines to your download queue (available from app version v4.15/Powered by ZinioPro 1.15)

    Auto-download recent issues>When a new issue notification is received is delivered to your device the issue will automatically download or queue depending upon your cellular data preferences

    Download using cellular data> When enabled the app uses the mobile network, when disabledit uses the available WiFi networks

    Show thumbnails on Reader> When enabled a copy of the publication in miniature is available for quick navigation

    Show article popup on Reader > When enabled, a pop up alerts the user that the text option is available

    Sync your Library > Sync Now> Sync your library with our servers to see all your magazines (do not close the app during the syncing progress)

    Default reading mode> Tap on it to change from default reading in PDF or Text

  • TYPES OF READING VIEWS AVAILABLEIN THE APP

    The PDFView > A replica of the magazine showing the same layout as the published magazine (this is the default view)

    The Text View > This is more like a worddocument (with pictures) allowing the reader to resize text and change between day and night mode, which may be more comfortable on smaller mobile devices

    TO SWITCH BETWEEN PDF AND TEXT VIEW

    Open a publication

    When turning pages if an article pop up appears ( if enabled ) this indicates that a text view is available for this article. Tap on the pop up to switch to text view (this can be turned on or off in the preferences )

    Open a publication

    OR

    Select a page with at least one article (i.e. not just pictures or adverts)

    Tap once on the page to show the navigationtools

    Select TextorPDF

    NOTES

    Text view is only available on pages with articles

  • If you are unable to see your adult magazines from your library, please check if the Zinio app or Zinio website is in a restricted International Store.

    Note that some restrictions may apply in certain countries (e.g. Singapore and China). In order to be able to see adult magazines, you will need to change the International Store to an unrestricted country.

    To change the International Store on the Zinio app:

    Go toAccount>Preferences >International Stores

    Tap on the relevant Store
