Q&A With University of Utah Employees

Extremely difficult. They have a four-point performance scale where 1 is underperforming, 2 is adequately performing, 3 is going well above and beyond, and 4 was described as "godlike". Everyone gets a 2 unless you're well-liked by management and have never made a mistake in your entire life. You get a 1 if you have made even one small mistake or ask for clarity on a task. If you get a 1 within 6 months of hire, you are fired.

Nearly impossible.

Absolutely terrible. Only the worst people work at the University of Utah.

Terrible. An analyst from another department would constantly do my work before I had a chance, which prevented me from learning my job for the first two months. Then, when the third month rolled around and I still wasn't proficient, they wondered why I wasn't doing well and proceeded to berate me and refer to me as incompetent. It is a toxic atmosphere. Do not work here.

Apparently not considering I worked with mainly potheads and criminals.

Yes. They don't care if you come to work high or something, they just want you to pass a test. There was a man who drank beer in the office and nobody ever said a word.

I was told on my first day to keep my head down and never suggest any kind of improvement. Remain quiet and get by.

Extremely thick skin, the ability to gossip and trash others, a temper, whining that you won't work with one person or another, and completing other people's work faster than they can so that they can't learn their job.

For all interviews, regardless if it for a job or to college, you should dress business formal, men in a suit and women in suitable business like fashion.

Business casual

The university of Utah almost exclusively hires people who are generally difficult to work with. They will not pitch in, they will not answer questions, and they even photograph you during meetings or while you're away from your desk. They use these photos to make up stories about you and pass them around the office. I wish I were making this up.

Lie, lie, lie.

Maternity is for a woman who gives birth, while paternity is for the male whose significant other gives birth.

Nothing. It's a horrible place to work and no one should be proud of it.

Harassment of other employees, mostly. Many have drinking problems and frequent local bars.

It's not. You are chained to your desk and watched constantly. If you don't adhere to the same hours as just one other employee there, you are reported to your manager.

Atheist or agnostic, antagonistic toward Christianity, no family to speak of (especially any children), white like fresh snow or an immigrant with a thick accent, generally unkempt, messy hair or looks as though they smell bad.

Probably as terrible as working there.

HR will ignore any of your complaints or concerns. It's policy. If they refer you to their internal Office of Equal Opportunity, they will refer you back to HR. You will never be given a fair shake. You are an employee, and therefore the enemy.

It's not. They're stuck using PeopleSoft and don't even use the built-in functionality of later revisions.

You are told that your job is safe, then your probation period is extended, and then you're blindsided just days before your probation period ends. The organization then saves a month or so of salary before hiring the next sucker.

Very, very poor.

You have to throw your colleagues under the bus to move up.

You don't need them because nobody has them. They will get you nowhere. Stabbing people in the back will get you somewhere.

Get on a shuttle, go to a meeting on campus that doesn't even involve you, and then go back to being chained to your desk.

Collared shirt, jeans. T-shirts used to be allowed until a psychopath upstairs saw a shirt he didn't like worn by someone who didn't even work for the University and banned any shirts with graphics. Ridiculous.
