Lack of rewards / no path to significant compensation growth on an annual basis. Lack of clarity or empowerment to focus on important work. Lack of incentives to retain good people. Too much celebration of mediocrity.

Product management often literally ignores communication with my team. As in, literally refuses to respond to basic questions. Engineering leaders often focus solely on V6 and core business use cases, leaving other teams to fend for themselves without any support. Teams ignore roadmap commitments.

Our salary bands are not competitive and we do not benchmark against the right group of peers. The lack of significant (30% to 50% of base salary) annual equity or cash bonuses is a serious problem. Promotions do not cone with significant (25%+) raises and feel like empty title changes.

Rewards and compensation need a huge revamp first. Teams need to be given clarity over what outcomes matter and then given autonomy to make it happen, and the Empowered team model is not an answer for that. Culture needs to emphasize hustle and delivery, not bureaucracy and work / life balance.
