Bonus is a standard percentage of salary multiplied by factor of company's performance multiplied by individual performance. Example: $300k*35% (standard)*1.25 (company performance)*1.6 (individual performance)= $210k.

They increase the starting wage, but don't add anything to the existing employees hourly. If starting wage is 15 an hour and raise it to 16.50 thats great for a new employee. If an existing employee makes 16.50, they get nothing. They are loyal to the company, but aren't rewarded with any increase.
