Providence Health & Services – I recently left Providence after 2 years of working as a nurse practitioner for the organization. I feel the company is stuck in time and struggling to evolve in the 21st century. The organization needs to figure out how to be relevant. Too much male leadership, misogyny, and inability to change. | Comparably

The patients are great and very interested in understanding their illness and getting better.

There is a lack of support for non-physician staff. Physicians are valued but nurses are treated as replaceable, especially advanced practice clinicians.

The culture was better when I started with the company, as time went on the people promoted for leadership were not positive or supportive causing a negative work environment.

The interview started with a phone screening from an HR recruiter, then an interview with the hiring manager, a practice assessment was administered and then I heard back in about a week. The process was very fast, and the expectations and compensation were explicitly stated.

I changed to a manager that was more supportive and mentoring. My previous manager was disrespectful and degrading to staff. My new manager worked to be a change champion to create a healthy work environment but leadership was resistant to these changes. The needed changes are slow to happen.
