How employees describe working at USC

Management does not delegate or diffuse disagreements. Management makes disagreements worse. Understaffing has led coworkers to fight about who has to take on extra tasks and management expects them to figure it out on their own. They don't.

i work at Keck med of USC. Leadership is wonderful. I feel hard and included. Leaders really care about the employees..

That I get to enjoy 2 weeks off to be with my family at the holidays.

USC at face value can feel like a very idealistic institution work-wise, in that there is a lot of talk about the great things we should be doing or what is considered to be an ideal working environment (trojan family), but consistently falls short of achieving any of it well...if it all.

Nice people but always room for approvement. A little slow recruiting new hires.

  • My interviews were very lax and easy. It was clear that the people interviewing me didn't know how to do the job, so they asked very general questions. It seemed to be more personality fit.

  • In my department we have a lot of cubicles and managers have offices. There are also meeting rooms along the outside of the office. I assume it's different for each department though.

    Depends on your manager and department. Overall, many employees are self-motivated and dedicated to the mission of helping students excel. There is little recognition for high performing employees and unfortunately, low performing employees are not mentored to improve nor are they laid off. Student facing departments (admissions, recruiting, career services) are focused on numbers (test scores, GPA, employment etc.) and at times lose sight of the student. Overall, it is a pleasant place to work and faces the same ups and downs as many large organizations.
