How long does it take to hear back after applying to Abbott?

Reasonable. I had most weekends and evenings free.
How does Abbott make decisions around promotions?
Managers and executives make those decisions.
How's the vacation policy at Abbott?
The vacation policy is pretty much in line with other companies as far as the amount of vacation given. However, they have a use it or lose it policy that requires you to take vacation before the end of the year. Any exceptions would have to be approved by an EVP. I'd heard of employees being pressured to put in vacation time by the end of the year into the system, but then not really being able to take the time off.

Above average health benefits, 401k matching, RSUs, good bonuses and pension (which is rare these days).

It is a tough environment in the sense that the legal issues are complex and challenging. However, the legal department is well respected and valued, so the work is hard but rewarding.

Abbott compensation is generous and comprehensive, with more components than most employers, including both a 401k AND pension!
