They are behind the curve on pay but have provided (at least to our station) huge investments in infrastructure such as a building, tower repairs and equipment. They have the money, just not for the journalists.

At our station we are like family. You grow to care for the people you work with even if they are only there for 2-3 years on contract. Not everyone loves everyone but for the most part.

They are an old guard trying to compete in a digital space. No one really knows what to do which puts stress on the individual for station web metrics. Again because its an antiquated management, they refuse to take ideas on how to engage an online audience unless it comes from corporate leadership.

In our market (below 150) we are paid just barely above the what retail and fast food workers are paid. The schedules and pay make it nearly impossible to become a homeowner and start a family. Not everyone wants to move up in markets and we need legacy talent to stay, but won't because they can't.
