Bell is heavily invested in our local communities by donating approximately $1M per year to over 100+ non-profits and sponsoring several large employee-led campaigns per year. We empower our employees to give back through three main avenues: our Matching Gift Program that matches employee’s donations dollar for dollar up to $7500 per calendar year to the charities of their choice, our Volunteer Portal that allows employees to sign up for or host volunteer activities in the community, and through our employee-led fundraising campaigns that raise hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to support organizations such as United Way. Our Employee Resource Groups and local departments also frequently collaborate with local non-profits to raise funds for and serve at the organizations they are most passionate about throughout the year.

What are some of the ways that your company empowers your employees to give back?

Social responsibility initiatives come directly from our passionate, vocal, and caring team members. We are very proud of our charitable program at Algolia and each year are enthused by our employees’ commitment to supporting those in need. Through matching employees’ charitable donations at 100% up to $5,000 per employee, per year, 2020 was a record year of giving for Algolia and donations exceeded $140,000 to organizations such as ACLU, Color of Change, UNICEF, Black Girls Code, 100 Black Men of America, and many other community-based non-profits.  A highlight of last year’s giving has been our partnership with The Vijay and Marie Goradia Charitable Foundation sponsored by our Executive Leadership team member, Piyush Patel, to match our donations and double our impact to support Covid relief efforts in India.

What is the value to your company of having employees give back?

It’s very important to our employees that we practice our core values through action – employees want to know that their work is “doing good.” Algolia offered a Pro Plan free of charge to any developer or team working on Covid-19-related, not-for-profit websites or apps. Such projects included building a new website related to a public service project to facilitate COVID-19 communications in a community, which develops a search experience to help a local business better connect and serve its community with essential products and services, and creating a website and mobile app to connect community members with one another. This program lasted more than 18-months and provided 100+ organizations with our product at no cost.
