I've interviewed for several positions. When i was initially hired, my interview was very casual, no pre-written questions. It wa a friendly conversation with a manager. Subsequent interviews were like a factory line. Formal interviews with multiple managers, asking questions off a corporate list
Always open to chat about things that worry someone. Helpful in the day to day.
I've worked for REI for more than 3 years. I love it. The managers work hard to train and retain employees. The customers are usually great and really care about preserving and enjoying the outdoors. During a recent illness, I felt very supported by the company and my managers and coworkers.
Quality products at fair prices, particularly their own products and their co-op values, however, they have stayed from these values in the past seversl years snd moved to becoming like most ogher retailers in this cstrgory, and have lost some of my loyalty.

How's the work life balance at REI?
REI is really focused on work-life balance. You get paid vacations if you work more than 20 hours a week and you get 2 free days off a year paid.
GREAT. Everyone is understanding and work life balance is a very important value and supported by management.

Merit and preformance
How's the vacation policy at REI?
Best I've ever had. Also, you get an a paid day to play outside after Thanksgiving and a day of your choosing twice a year.
How's the feedback proccess at REI?
Ask and you shall receive! It is formally given quarterly on 1:1's, but whenever I want it, I ask for it. Also, my manager will offer it when applicable.

I look forward to it more than any job I've had before. It's still work, but it's much easier to go somewhere where you like the vibe and your co workers and your job.

Very easy.

I could be more challenged, but I have no complaints.

A decent amount of diversity. I would not say people are hired based on ethnicity, but on qualifications.

For my first position, I had a phone interview and then a group interview. For my second position, it was a sit down style with my now manager and colleague.
