If a situation like this turns unnecessarily out of control, then they should be reminded that all their FOCUS must be primarily on the completing and optimizing the tasks of each working day. Arguments contesting or disputing personal political opinions, views and respective perspectives between co-workers or employee/client, when not specified as a required aspect of the company's policies or expected duties, must be reserved to be debated outside work hours, at the employee's own personal time. Prioritizing and accomplishing all work requirements, to attain own personal/professional growth, paving the road to a wider spectrum of opportunities, flexibility, self ownership and self fulfilment.

Yes! Religion and politics are still topics to avoid!

That and religion. If you can't be respectful over either topics; keep quiet.

Consistently speaking of political topics and knowing it creates tension shows a lack of professional and emotional intelligence.

It depends on who you’re talking with, if it is a adult conversation bringing out points of view, with no judgment, that is fine. To belittle a person because of their point of you should not happen.

Yes! Politics is very divisive these days. Discussions can get ugly. Work is not the place for such an emotional topic. Can you say, “Can we talk about something else, please?”

It shouldn't be avoided, however, it must stay healthy and you (all) must feel comfortable enough to make others aware if you're getting uncomfortable due to something hitting home. And to make sure everyone knows it's okay to disagree, that nobody's opinions are wrong; everyone is right. These conversations may be intense or even unpleasant at times, but you have to remember they are actually doing good in the end. It may seem the opposite, like it's immature to argue, but in fact the mature thing is a healthy debate to bring results and change. The only way things change is after all people involved discuss things, even if a blowout occurs in between (that's our fault for not communicating calmly); the end result is progress, even if it takes a millennia to do so. And change will not occur without discussion, no matter how uncomfortable. The funny thing is, sometimes the change can be seen as positive, in the right direction, or negative. All in the eye of the beholder. Perspective.

Depends if it's work politics or national/local. Work politics should be open at work. Leave national or state elsewhere.

Coworkers will talk a lot about personal stuff and other issues. Just be polite and if it interferes with your work speak to your manager or supervisor and let them know the issue.

Yes, it is too emotional of a subject and creates a negative environment. It can also destroy relationships, which is the exact opposite of what teams should be doing at work.

That sucks. It should be avoided, but if you're the one to break the news to the political wonks, you could alienate yourself.

That's a personal choice. You can still speak about politics and maintain a respectful relationship.

Luckily our office is fairly non-political, but the company definitely openly sympathetic to lefist political values and openly hostile to conservative political values, so anyone on the right has to keep their mouths shut when the company panders to leftist values.

Yes and no. While it is understandable to have brief conversation per the latest political news, I do think it is inappropriate to have extended conversations that typically devolve into personal attacks on persons that may support said, politicians.

Not really. Political views are like any other views. If things are basically kept civil, this should be like any other open conversation just like religion.

Politics & religion at work should be avoided, larger problem is the constant (regardless of political or religious views,) the constant racism, bigotry, misogyny, hate speech, threatening, sexism, personal attacks, being spewed daily & nothing being said or done about it, instead attacking & threatening those who report it.

I think it's a topic that should be used cautiously at work. Political banter is fine as long as it's not excessive and causing people to feel combative towards each other.

Politics should be avoided because they’re so partisan. Find ways to talk about -values- instead.

No, I don't think it helps to not talk about politics, but it also shouldn't come up in every conversation. Moderation is key.

The only ones it would bother is the snowflakes. So get over it. Everything u disagree with does not make it political incorrect. Grow up or get out.

No. Everyone should be able to express themselves.

Just discuss other topics. Don't talk about it.

No - your coworkers and maybe you are clearly too sensitive. Having debates, confrontation and arguments is part of being a grown up worker - grow a thicker skin

Doesn’t matter. Politics don’t affect the everyday lives of most people. There is no real choice. The machine will continue to always consume. It is just something people like to talk about so let them. And teach them to embrace the difference in opinion and move forward.

Absolutely not. Discussing politics in the office is the best way to cause friction between coworkers.

talking about politics in the office is a lose lose situation and is better left avoided
