If it is end of year, you have sick days available and if they are not used you lose them? Yes, I think it’s okay to use sick days, after all you did earn them.
If you are healthy & don't need the days for sickness I am fine with them using their days for whatever they wish.
Not at all. There are people who genuinely need those days. For people to take advantage of this, it is wrong
I think it can be irresponsible to do so as you may need them for when you are actually sick but I don't think its necessarily wrong so long as you are caught up on everything you have to do and don't have many expected upcoming tasks/responsibilities.
No, they are called Sick Days for a reason. I took one today and I am truly sick.
It's not fair. For both sides. The company hires an employee because of a need, so it's important to respond to that. Although, companies should also consider that employees are human beings and we live in a society where this time might be needed, so if the company is close to help the employee there, the employee will have no more choice. So it's not fair, but it a mutual responsibility situation.
Yes! Being sick of work is a legitimate reason to take off!
Yes, because without using the "sick day", worry and frustration may build up and cause even more of a problem later on. R&R days are mainly restorative in nature and you hopefully go back to work calmer, more in tune with what you need to do.
If you get days, use them however... just dont REALLY get sick after you've used them all
I do think it is fair to use sick days for personal errands. Sometimes there are errands that require they get done during business hours. If you are working normal business hours yourself or even 12 hour days it isn't possible to get things done. I'm not saying its ok to take advantage and use sick time for nonsense, but if the employee earned it or was given it then its theirs to use as they need.
I think it is only fair for employers to offer only PTO and dont ask or wonder why one used a PTO day! Employers worry too much about profit rather than keeping a good work force.
If the company has limited sick days, you just have so many to use.
If you do not abuse your sick time and once in a while need to use them for other things it shouldn't Be a Problem.
No, I do not believe it is an appropriate or correct use of "sick days" they are for illness.
sure why not? I earned it.
Yes. Accrued days are for personal use.
I never got paid to be sick.
No, Actaully the whole concept of sick days is sick. Nobody is sick for pleasure. People that abuse it will always be there.
Not if there is a pool of vacation time available. If the employer only offers one bucket of paid time off, and calls it "sick days", it's fair to take for any purpose.
Our company makes no difference between personal days & sick days
Yes, PTO is for whatever you choose to use it for no matter what you call it. However, then if you get sick, too bad.
My employer doesn't offer sick days. Just a single PTO bucket the supposedly covers sick, vacation AND office-closing holidays. It's not a great system.
No, as long as the employer provides a reasonable number of vacation days.
