Bad attitudes from employees, including employees that have "checked out". Employees needing to take a larger than normal amount of time off when not actually going on vacation. Employers that have no boundaries.
if the interviewer says negative things about the company or their colleagues
They are not excited or happy.
from the atmosphere around
Look at the faces of your peers
First and foremost, do your homework; is there a high employee turnover rate? Check out the atmosphere if given a tour....do people/ depts. have personal photos of family/friends. Are there "positive" themed bulletin boards? Are staff presented with their "heads in their work" without looking up as you pass by?
Look at the hierarchy
You usually can’t see past the fake until it’s too late
You can tell by the interviewers body language.
Not always. Unless it's blatant or something seems off.
Maybe how much the interviewer asks from the interviewee and at the end of the interview we can ask questions for example how many people have worked in the position that you are applying before.
It is usually apparent by the tone and questions. Also it is important to ask your own questions about the things that are important to you. If you get negative responses that tips you off that the company might not be a good fit
look at productivity metrics
When they keep asking what your feelings are on multiple situations
When I am on the interview, I would like the workplace or not. It’s that simple. Toxicity has nothing to do with it
By noticing how unhappy the employees are
I don't think you can unless somebody walks in and starts yelling that it is.
Signs of toxic workplace: 1.Disrespectful behaviour towards the candidate 2. Poor attitude 3. The way the interview looks at the interviewee while assessing appearance 4. Types of word choices 5. Creating fear in order to get work done
I can tell by looking at the employee's the tension. Also by the questions they ask
observer surrounds, to co workers talk and interact, is it a pleasant atmosphere? Do people just sit and stare at the screen?
If politics or religion is brought up or of course if anything ("jokes,") sexist, racist, bigoted is mentioned.
A sense of hostility coming from people you come in contact with.
It’s difficult to judge toxicity based on interviews, Companies usually put their best face in front. Takes interaction or stand by the watering hole, coffee machine
When you ask questions to your interviewers, ask a question about how they would handle a scenario you think would cause toxicity in the workplace. If they answer it appropriately (for you) then you should be okay. But make sure to find other employees on LinkedIn, or past employees of the company and get their feedback on it from firsthand experience.
I've learned to tell by the office plants. If there are no plants or the plants are dried and shriveled, it means that the workers don't have enough time or comfort to tend to activities other than their deskwork.
Because, they dance around all the negatives. They only state how great the place is to work.
Honestly there is no way to tell! The only thing to do is watch the body language
Impossible ,people put on there happy face!
When you sit down and the new manager says if you have a problem with anybody in this office during the interciew you know the manager is the toxic person and you polietly decline the interview
The body language of the interviewers.
You wait more than 10 minutes past the scheduled time, the interviewer condescends or patronizes you. There is no flexibility in their thinking through the interview.
Signs of micro management
