People are WAY more sensitive and don’t have the thick skin of days gone by

I left a company due to bad politics. I might have stayed if they paid more but they didn't. So I didn’t.

From my experience, they’ve seemed to get less professional and more child like, not working as a team and trying to sabotage coworkers to try and make themselves look better. Where I last worked the phrase, “it’s business, not personal” was reversed and it seemed personal attracts on staff who weren’t liked were far more important than coming together as a team, forgetting we dislike each other and working toward what really mattered. I learned enough there to know I never will allow myself to stay in such a situation, for so long, ever again.

Politics in the past haven't been as polarizing but in the past couple of years, there is no tolerance for people who identify themselves as republican because they are viewed and talked about as being dumb, racist, sexist, homophobic and selfish. It is very sad to see this happening in so many companies and being accepted. If someone said that another employee is dumb because they believed in a certain religion or because they are female, there would be resentment and the employee harassing would be fired. But you never hear about anyone being disciplined for harassing or bad mouthing others for simply being republican or if they like Trump.

There is an informal network that allows employees to socialize ideas and collaborate across functional area which naturally creates influencers. It's not the office politics of years gone by - its next generation thinking and partnership that drives the decision making process by leveraging the informal networks to gather diverse points of view.

Not really. You always have some politics. Senior management should try to eliminate as much as possible.

Everyone plays Survivor. Alliances to take down others in the office. Cannot move up without playing some game or figuring out the game being played. Increasingly childish mentality as move up the ladder.

Not much; though corporate HR is usually terrible.
