Is that really a thing or is it your perception? It's really illegal if it is a thing.

Many are founded by younger people who value new knowledge over experience, mostly to their peril. To compound this they are often on a tight budget and opt for less experienced lower paid hires, often finding they lack the experience to determine and apply strategy in a programatic and efficient way to drive successful tactical execution.

Typically it’s because they don’t plan to stick around, are less educated on newer technologies and are less likely to be a good fit within the existing culture. But they are WAY more customer focused and have the real-world experience most companies need.

Because It's easier to measure brilliance academically but stamina with experience. Tech companies want fast sprinters not stable workhorses.

Older people like myself tend to struggle a little more when it comes to tech work

Probably because they’re usually more mature and trustworthy as well as experienced

    Forgetfulness, slow, not technology savvy.

Each company is different and each position may require strengths that aren’t abundant in every demographic

Because older employee will usually cost more. The older employee has been in the field a bit longer than younger employees and the young employee will more than like take a lower salary than the older one.

In general tech companies are looking for younger cutting-edge people because they are more familiar with technology as a part of life then as an addition to life.

Only because older employees aren't as up-to-date with technology as millenials

They do hire older employees. Our company did. But usually I think that some don't because they don't want to have to correct the process of bad habits that they will not be able to break. And they want to be perceived as up and coming as opposed to being on there way out.

Companies don’t see them as being knowledgeable about emerging technologies

For fear of lack of updated tech knowledge.

Good question. I am older but have stayed extremely relevant related to technologies. Things are constantly changing, so why not hire me since the skills you're hiring me for are only good for 10-15 years tops anyway? I have a lot to bring to the table. Not ALL older workers are set in their ways or comfortable remaining in a dead end job with no new things to learn.

    Prejudice, plain and simple.

Image, no company wants to be know as the 'old people' employer. They feel like younger employees are more likely to be more flexible with new tech and change. They think younger people are more flexible thinkers who are less set in their ways or vision for how things can be done. They want to pay lower wages/salaries than someone with 5, 10, 20yrs experience would typically command. They think younger people are hungrier to learn and prove themselves, and will sacrifice more to get ahead. They think younger people aren't tied down by normal constraints of life... kids, houses, etc... so can be more mobile as needed. They think younger people have more energy and drive.
