I think an opinion is better than not having one - hopefully it's a favorable one.
CEO is the driver of culture and responsible for saturating the company with their vision. If employees have no opinion it says a great deal about the culture.
Important to know all senior leadership that you supp.
Important to respect those at the top.
Having an opinion is fine and really not that important, because it's only his or her opinion. The opinion is subjective, but respecting the CEO is more important, than an opinion.
To be invested in the company employees should know the hierarchy of the company.

That depends on the company. If you're a cog in a mega-corp machine, it really doesn't matter much at all. If you plan to ascend the corporate ladder and eventually work with the CEO (or people who do directly work with them), it's a good idea to at the very least understand their broader goals and motivations.
Fair and transparent.
Depends on the company size. Many employees in large companies may not even know the CEOs name. In smaller companies it is more important that all employees respect and know who the CEO is.
