There have been situations where fired employees came back and it was a DARK day for everyone. Safety reasons they have to scorch out and see to it that you don’t come back in
I assume so they don't take something from the office or cause any trouble or scene.
In case they go off the rails, or take confidential material.
They don't won't the employee to see someone they dislike and go over to cause problems and they don't won't machinery or products stolen or destroyed
Because they are worried you'll go postal and hurt someone.
Most is because of legal liability. Some are fears that there is a confrontation or the leaving employee may be destructive.
Stupid protocols. It's so you don't manipulate or mess something up for them. The second you are fired, you don't have any business there and are technically trespassing.
Acceptable organizational processes differ. Good internal communication ensures this is understood.
Unless they were dangerous or have threatened physical harm, I couldn’t imagine why.
They dont want to risk the person ‘“poisoning the well” or stealing something. Or shutting down the network. It’s really dumb. If you have your IT team lock it down while this person is with HR, there’s no real reason to not give them some dignity and let them pack up and say goodbye.
Escorting 'outgoing employee's' is a very common thing nowadays. Just be aware of that & don't let it wierd you out. Take it in stride.
Safety and Liability
Theft of confidential data. Make a scene uncomfortable for others.
My guess would be that it’s because people are afraid that they are going to cause a scene?
Companies are afraid of retaliation and/or theft. They feel the need to protect their property and documents and other employees from the consequences of someone being fired or laid off.
This can happen for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, it is company policy. The company is protecting itself from a person taking retaliatory actions (sabotage files, damage property, etc.) , so they are escorted out of the building. Sometimes, when there are government contracts or there are highly sensitive documents, they want to be sure that the person won't take the documents with them. When a person is let go, it can be very stressful and upsetting. With some companies and depending on the circumstances, you may be escorted out, but after a cooling off period, you may be permitted to return to take care of any remaining business you may have.
