Just do your job, you come to work because you are paid so there's now way for you to become unproductive.

I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to work on this project and to be totally effective on getting you the outcome I need (fill in the blank) more days. During those days this is the timeline of what will be completed.

Be honest and show the work that’s been done. It’s hard to argue “unproductive” when you have the progress in front of you

I would first make a checklist of all that’s been done already and then a list of what still need to be done. Mark a date I feel is needed to have everything done. Take my lists of what has been accomplished and the remaining to do and take to boss. Ask boss if new date could be considered. If not could more help be given to delegate tasks to meet the boss’s deadline.

Ask for a extension to complete the task in a timely manner

Bring up how you don't get paid enough.
