Comparably’s annual Best Company Outlook for 2019 combines anonymous employee ratings in two categories: Outlook, which measures how they feel about their company’s future, and eNPS (employee net promoter score), which measures how likely employees are to recommend their company to a friend. The award winners are segmented into two ranked lists: Top 50 Large companies (more than 500 employees) and Top 50 Small/Mid-Size companies (less than 500 employees). Methodology
- Comparably Awards are derived from ratings provided by employees who anonymously rated their employers on Comparably.com between March 8, 2018 and March 8, 2019. There were no fees or costs associated with participating, nor was nomination required. The final data set was compiled from nearly 10 million ratings across 50,000 U.S. companies.
- To qualify, Large companies (more than 500 employees) must have a minimum of 50 employee participants and Small/Mid-Size companies (fewer than 500 employees) must have a minimum of 15 employee participants. Additional weight was given to companies with more participation from their employee base.
- Winners were determined based on a combination of two scores: 1) Outlook, which measures responses to questions such as, “How confident are you about the future success of your company?” and “Are you typically excited about going to work each day?” and 2) eNPS score (employee Net Promoter Score), which measures responses to the question, “How likely are you to recommend working at your company to a friend?” Outlook is rated on a 1-100 basis. eNPS is rated on a -100 to 100 basis, where -100 to -10 is a poor score, -10 to 20 is good/average, and anything above 20 is excellent.
- The answer to each question was given a numerical score and then compared to companies of similar size across the U.S.
