Living a balanced life is one of Centric Consulting’s core values. We monitor projects to ensure employees have time for family, community and personal interests, and we have an innovative paid time off (PTO) policy that trusts employees to manage their own vacation, sick and personal time. As an organization founded as a remote company in 1999, we also led the way in technologies like Microsoft Teams that allow employees to manage their work lives from wherever they are. In fact, CEO Larry English even wrote a book about building a connected culture with virtual teams.
Why is this important to your company?
We believe that great work-life balance is a cornerstone of a highly engaged culture. Protecting our own work-life balance while respecting colleagues’ need to balance their lives and work fosters trust, openness, communication, collaboration, and innovation. Employees can then build deeper relationships that allow them to ask questions more comfortably, manage conflict more effectively, and avoid a lot of the negative emotions and politics that can be part of more traditional work-based relationships. All these benefits lead to employees who are healthier, less stressed, more engaged and more productive—in other words, happier!

That is why we provide various ways for our employees to unplug and recharge, giving them the room to cultivate their creativity and well-being. Our flexible Paid Time Off (PTO) policy is designed to empower team members to prioritize taking care of themselves, enabling them to return refreshed and at their peak performance. We also recognize the dedication of our full-time employees with six or more consecutive years of service at Squarespace by honoring their commitment with the opportunity to take up to 6 consecutive weeks of paid Sabbatical Leave.
Additionally, we view our people as professionals with interests, responsibilities and passions outside of work. We believe great design is not a luxury and should be available to everyone; so we encourage the creator and entrepreneur in all of our employees by offering them two free Squarespace websites for life and a complimentary subscription to our social product, Unfold, to give them an opportunity to be the customer and pursue their creative passions.

What is your company doing to help employees achieve work life balance?
At Vertafore, a healthy work-life balance is key for the success and happiness of our employees. We won the 2023 Comparably Best Company for Work-Life Balance award based solely on feedback and reviews from our own employees. To achieve this, we offer a Flexible First work environment, meaning our team members work from home as often as they’d like, while using our offices for collaboration, community, and team building. We support personal life balance with generous and flexible time off, paid holidays, festival celebrations, and social events. We even added an extra Vertafore holiday the second Friday in April called Refresh & Recharge Day – this day is meant for employees to unplug and recharge doing what makes them happy. We also have robust mental health resources because we know mental health issues don’t just stop during work hours.

Whether a team member is new to the company or a seasoned employee, Classy Llama highly encourages everyone to work where they’re most efficient. This has developed into a robust remote work policy that empowers and equips team members to work from home as they see fit. Classy Llama has clear expectations of productive time allocated and spent working on client projects but maintains a results based mindset of what it means to be “working.” This way, people can tend to the responsibilities within their household during those common transition times between responsibilities.
Why is this important to your company?
The leadership at Classy Llama emphasizes the importance of who the team members are outside of the walls of the organization whether it be in their families or in their communities. It has consistently held true that when our team’s responsibilities are in order outside of Classy Llama, their efficiency within Classy Llama far exceeds expectations. This environment and mindset fosters a sense of trust that there’s always room for flexibility in cases of conflicting obligations. We place a very high emphasis on transparency and honesty while following through with reason, support, and understanding, which removes the anxieties and fears that come with appearing human to your company.
