Growing up in Waterbury, Connecticut, Mark Parisi witnessed the decline of the manufacturing industry and subsequent job losses in his hometown. Encouraged by his father to seek growth opportunities, he ventured into the business world. In 1999, after a conversation with a friend already working in technology services, Mark decided to join the industry. 

His career journey led him from New York to Charlotte, where he held a position at a large consulting services firm, before ultimately finding his way to Genesis10 in 2008 as the Director of Business Strategy and Development. Mark briefly departed from Genesis10 in 2012 but returned seven years later to help realize Harley’s vision for the organization. 

Reflecting on his decision to come back, Mark shares, “We wanted to take Genesis10 to the next level and, while Harley never hid his neurodiversity, he decided to openly discuss it more often.

“My son has what most people today call Aspergers. When Harley and I discussed my returning to Genesis10, I shared that I needed to be around my son much of the time. Based on his own experience, Harley was more than understanding. That played a major part in my decision to come back. It’s also when we started looking at the process to certify Genesis10 as a Disability Owned Business Enterprise.”

As an individual with personal experiences of distinct cognitive patterns, varying focus abilities, and other unique neurological characteristics, Harley profoundly understands the importance of promoting neurodiversity and providing opportunities for those possessing a variety of mental strengths and challenges. In the United States, the group makes up just shy of 19.8%, and about 22% of the people in the world. Despite their significant presence, there remains a glaring lack of authentic representation.
