Just Half of Women Feel They Are Paid Fairly

Today is Equal Pay Day, a day when women are coming together to fight the gender pay gap. Recent statistics show women get paid 80 cents for every $1 men earn.

So, just how many women feel they are underpaid? About 50%, according to the latest reading of an ongoing query by Comparably. Fifty-six percent of men say the same.

People of color feel most underpaid. Workers who identified as African American, Hispanic or Latino, or “other,” had the lowest rates of saying they feel they are paid fairly. Caucasians had the highest (57%).

New York, Houston want more. People who work in New York and Houston had the lowest rates of saying they feel they are paid fairly (50%), compared with those in Minneapolis and San Diego (70%).

 Women in legal are least happy with their pay; women in HR are most happy with their pay. Just 35% of women in legal say they believe they are paid fairly. In HR, that number is 67%.
