It may seem like everyone around you is shoving food down their throats while glued to their desk chairs. That’s not actually the case.
In fact, 53% of workers in tech say they generally take an hour or more for lunch, according to the latest results of an ongoing query by Comparably. That’s more than the 47% of workers outside of tech who do the same.
Just 1 in 5 workers eats lunch at their desk, according to the results.

Some workers reported longer lunches than others — 59% of people in design and 56% of people in communications said they take lunch for an hour or more.

Young workers are more likely to take longer lunches
Fifty-eight percent of workers 18 to 25 and 26 to 30 take an hour or more for lunch — the longest of any age group. Only 14% and 17%, respectively, stay at their desks for lunch.

The rate of those who eat lunch at their desks increases with age, hitting a high of 29% among those 51 to 60.
