When asked to pick the skill they see as most important in a job candidate, most people said either “integrity” or “work ethic,” according to the latest reading of an ongoing query by Comparably.com of more than 500 workers across the tech sector.
Thirty-two percent of people chose integrity while 27% chose work ethic. The qualities that followed were “good culture fit” (21%), “resourcefulness” (12%) and — perhaps surprisingly — “prior experience” (8%).
Prior experience was least valued by workers in sales (7%):

Men and women differed slightly in their preferences overall, with men choosing “integrity” as the most important quality and women choosing work ethic (31%).

The latest reading is as of Dec. 7.
