Recent Questions About the Interview Process at Microsoft

  • What should I wear for an interview at Microsoft?
Depends on the position I guess...I personally feel that anyone who wears less than a suit to an interview is not making the best impression, but Microsoft's attitude towards dress code is super relaxed. How badly do you want the job?
    Answered 7 years ago
Come as you are, do what you love - that's literally the invitation Microsoft Hr is giving to candidates. If you want to wear a hoodie, wear it! If you want to wear a shirt, wear it! Flip flops or a Gothic costume? Wear it! What matters are your skills, your passion and potential. If you got those, you're likely to get the job.
    Answered 8 years ago
I wore jeans with a blouse and sweater. I got the job. I saw people wearing sweatpants and people in suits. They really don't care what you wear so be comfortable.
    Answered 7 years ago
Casual and feel comfortable. No one should worry about the dress code. I went with casual dress for my .interview
    Answered 7 years ago
While dress is casual at Microsoft, you should always show up looking your best for an interview. Avoid jeans, t-shirts, etc. Your shirt, pants, dress, skirt, etc. should be pressed. Unless you're applying for a job in sales, (which requires formal business attire), aim for stylish business casual. Above all else, wear something that makes you feel confident.

Most positions within Microsoft , you should wear nice business wear. typically you dress slightly better for the interview than you will day to day. Microsoft is no different. There are sales jobs where you would be wearing suits and so you would want a suit for those jobs.

If you are interviewing for an engineering role, no one cares how you dress. I showed up wearing jeans and a t-shirt and got the job.

Microsoft HR is very unresponsive, almost cocky. They take their sweet time getting in touch with candidates, even ones they intend to offer positions too.

  • How would you compare interviewing at Microsoft to other places you've interviewed?
Thanks for the update on the status of my order I have been working on my own but I don't know what to say about it and I think depends how much you want to spend
    Answered 7 years ago
For me, it was much easier than most. In today's world a candidate could be scheduled to talk with 1-20 people in interviews. It's kind of a popularity contest, they are looking for "their kind" of people. Microsoft was looking for the right candidate for the job, they sort out the personalities later.

  • What was the most difficult question that was asked during your interview at Microsoft?
I didn't consider any of the questions to be particularly difficult, but I have a lot of experience.
    Answered 7 years ago
Usually, "what problems did you not solve at your previous position?".
    Answered 8 years ago
Since I did a fair amount of hires in MS, I believe I can answer on behalf of a few. I worked in engineering and obviously asked both simple and complex questions related to coding. But I also brought up questions that I had myself to get an extra set of eyes. For Program Managment I love Feynman asked”you created a new product for Microsoft, how do you make it a success, purely to see how the think, don’t go into any question expecting you can do it all, play along with the “one microsoft methodology “ and praise teamwork
