Elizabeth Chao, MD, FACMG — Chief Medical Officer at Ambry Genetics

Dr. Chao is a Clinical Geneticist who is also board-certified in Clinical Molecular Genetics and first joined Ambry Genetics in 2011. She completed her training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and has more than ten years of experience in the clinical laboratory. As Chief Medical Officer, she focuses on excellence and innovation in the interpretation of genomic variants and communication of test results back to clinicians and families. Prior to joining Ambry, Dr. Chao was an Associate Laboratory Director at the University of Pennsylvania and also a Howard Hughes Research Scholar the National Human Genome Research Institute. She served on the ACMG Laboratory Quality Assurance Committee 2015-2020, and has been deeply involved in efforts through ACMG as well as ClinGen to develop professional standards for clinical laboratory testing and variant assessment. Dr. Chao is a licensed in the state of California as a physician and Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist.
