Dr. Raymond J. Deshaies, Ph.D., has been Senior Vice President of Discovery Research of Amgen Inc. since May 11, 2017. Dr. Deshaies is a Co-Founder of Onyx Therapeutics, Inc. Dr. Deshaies is an Associate Professor of Biology and Assistant Investigator, HHMI at California Institute of Technology. He Co-Founded Cleave Biosciences, Inc. in 2011. He is an Executive Officer in Caltech's Division of Biology and Biological Engineering. In addition to his academic work, he Co-founded Proteolix in 2003. Dr. Deshaies is a world-renowned expert in the study of cell growth and division and in the biochemistry of protein degradation pathways. Dr. Deshaies has received numerous awards and scholarships and in 1999 was selected as Young Investigator of the Year by the American Society for Cell Biology. He was also an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Deshaies holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.S. degree in Biochemistry from Cornell University.
