There is absolutely no internal competition here, everyone wants each other to win. People help each other out where they can.
What are some of the best things about your team?
The kindness. People genuinely care for each other's wellbeing, and I don't mean that in a fake "company is family" kind of way.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
Compared to other VC-backed companies of Automattic's size and age, the benefits -- especially for the international folks -- aren't amazing, and there are no stock option grants whatsoever. You can buy internal stock, but that isn't useful when you don't have lots of money left over every month.
