Executive Bio

Mr. Clarke R. Starnes, III has been the Chief Risk Officer of BB&T Corporation since July 1, 2009 and serves as its Senior Executive Vice President. Mr. Starnes served as the Chief Credit Officer of BB&T Corporation since September 1, 2008 to June 2009. He served as an Executive Vice President of BB&T Corporation and also as Manager of Specialized Lending from January 2000 to August 2008. He heads up a group of 10 subsidiary corporations, affiliates and divisions of BB & T Corp. He joined BB & T Corp. in 1982 and managed its Loan Officer Development Program and Credit Analyst Department and later, he served as its Business Services Manager, Regional Senior Credit Officer, Regional Loan Administrator for Corporate Accounts and Direct Retail Lending Risk Manager. He serves as a Director of Consumer Bankers Association. He served as Director of Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Forsyth County (N.C.). Mr. Starnes served as a Member of the Board of Managers at Grandbridge Real Estate Capital, LLC. He serves as a Member of National Risk Management Association. He is a Deacon at Hope Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. Mr. Starnes holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a graduate of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking at University of Delaware. He also graduated from BB & T Corp.'s Leadership Development Program.
