BeenVerified's Frequently Asked Questions page is a central hub where its customers can always go to with their most common questions. These are the 34 most popular questions BeenVerified receives.
When running a search, remember that the more information you enter, the more you will narrow your search results. If you enter less information, this will broaden your search results. So unless you are searching for a very common name (John Smith, George White, etc) you may wish to try searching with less information in order to return more possible results. You can try leaving out middle initial, city and even age, and just searching by the first and last name in a state, or even try in all states.
Also, remember that the best way to return a result for someone in public records is by searching by their full first name. So try Richard instead of Dick and Thomas instead of Tom, for example.
Still not finding your subject?BeenVerified's database contains information collected from public records and publicly available data, compiled from thousands of different sources. Your ability to locate a specific individual in our database can be dependent on a number of factors, such as the amount of information collected on that individual by various government and private agencies, and the laws regarding public information in the state where the individual resides.
This is why it is more difficult to locate a younger individual in public records searches. Individuals who have not yet signed a lease or purchased property, or may not have had utilities in their name, etc have not had as much data collected on them in public records. Similarly, those individuals who try to stay under the radar (always pay with cash, never provide their contact information, avoid subscriptions and contests etc) may also be difficult to locate, because they don't interact as much with the kinds of agencies that collect public record data.
If you are unable to locate a particular individual in our database, please know that we continuously strive to update and expand our databases in order to provide you with the most current and accurate information we possibly can.

There are vast differences from state to state regarding how marriage and divorce records are made publicly available for integration into our database. There are many states that do not yet make their marriage and divorce records available digitally for us to pull into our reports.
If you do not see a marriage or divorce record you expected to find, please know that we are constantly updating and expanding our database to provide the most comprehensive and accurate reports we possibly can.
If you have not already, we encourage you to activate the Monitoring feature, so you will be notified whenever we receive new data in the person's report, such as an added marriage or divorce record.

If the case is dated over seven years ago, this is one reason it would not be returned by the researcher. If the case was an arrest or did not result in a conviction, this is another reason it may not have been returned.
You can also check to see the full name that appears on the top of your report, as this is the name that is searched at the county court. Is this the name the case is filed under? Is it possible the case was filed with a different county?

View ArticleBeenVerified's database contains information collected from public records and publicly available data, compiled from thousands of different sources. There is no set date limit on the information.
Depending on the individual, we may have addresses that date back 20 or 30 years, while criminal records from that person's state may only be available for the past 7-10 years. Your ability to locate certain information for a specific individual in our database can be dependent on a number of factors, such as the amount of information collected on that individual by various government and private agencies, and the laws regarding public information in the state where the individual resides.
How current the information is can also depend on how often that person interacts with these kinds of agencies. Have they filled out a change of address form? Applied for a new credit card? Recently purchased a home?
Regarding criminal records, some counties provide records dating back to the 1970s while others only provide records for the past 7 years.
We continuously strive to update and expand our databases in order to provide you with the most current and accurate information we possibly can.
View ArticleThe Criminal Records section of the background report may include criminal records from county courts, department of corrections, Administration of the Courts, and other state legal agencies. The types of offenses can include felonies, misdemeanors, sexual offenses, and even traffic incidents in some cases.
You must use EXTREME CAUTION when analyzing the results of a criminal background search for any purpose.Positive or false matches in criminal searches may not provide confirmation of an individual's criminal background.
Sometimes court records are incomplete as a result of being filtered through different court systems or because of typographic errors when moving the records from paper to computerized format. Dealing with government courts is not the easiest process and while we put every effort into making our data as accurate as possible, we are dependent upon the criminal data made digitally available to us by the courts.
There are some counties that make more criminal data digitally available to us than others. For example, some counties may provide arrests and even traffic cases with the data they make available, while other counties may only report felony and misdemeanor convictions. Some counties provide cases dating as far back as the 1970s while other counties may only provide data for cases dated within the past 7-10. Some counties provide updates more frequently than others. There are still some counties that do not yet make their criminal data digitally available to us.
If there is a conviction you know to exist, dated within the past seven years, you can use our Court Runner feature to send a court researcher directly to that county criminal court, to pull all convictions for that individual for the past seven years. You can read more about our Court Runner feature here.
View ArticleFor many of us, Google is our first stop when we're searching for information on someone. Who hasn't googled their own name, or a friend's name? The search algorithm makes searching for things things fast and easy. This makes many of us think that we can find anything on Google. However, a Google Search is not the same as running a background report on BeenVerified.
Google does not search all publicly available information - itonly searches information from publicly accessible websites. If information is only available for a fee or with a password, then it is generally not going to be searchable by Google. While BeenVerified does not have access to all public information either, it does have access to these for-pay and password protected records that regular search engines don't have access to.
BeenVerified has access to databases that would otherwise require many expensive payments. For the price of a single BeenVerified search, you get access to information that might otherwise cost multiple fees and require many searches. This type of information includes civil court documents and government records. It also includes criminal records that do not generally appear on a generic Google search.
Google returns searches by relevance, but does not exclude irrelevant information. When you run a Googlesearch for someone using their identifying information, it may return searches for people who share the same name, people who share the same birthday, or other identifying factors. The results may not be for the person that youre actually trying to find.
BeenVerified consolidates records about a single person into a unified report for you. This helps eliminate the overlap that can occur when looking for people that share the same name and/or birthdate. By consolidating reports by person, BeenVerified can help eliminate this common source of confusion.

View ArticleWhat is a chargeback? What is a dispute?
A chargeback is a payment reversal provided by a bank to the card holder on unauthorized or fraudulent purchase transactions. It is not to be confused with a refund, which is a return of payment back to a legitimate purchaser dissatisfied with the services paid for.
Incurring a chargeback on your account will result in an account suspension and will prevent us from issuing refunds on the disputed transaction in question. We also reserve the right to challenge a chargeback if we believe that the dispute is invalid. In this case, if we win the challenge, you will still be charged for the initial transaction and you will not be able to receive a refund on that transaction.
Canceling a dispute and getting a refund
If you are unsatisfied with the service or data we provided and would like to request a refund, or cancel your account, please contact our Customer Support center and our team will be happy to assist you.
If you have mistakenly requested a chargeback instead of a refund, you can generally cancel that dispute within 10 days, depending on your bank. Charging back a legitimate transaction will result in us being charged fees, the permanent suspension of your account, and the refund, if issued, potentially taking longer to post to your account (plus we reserve the right to challenge your dispute with the bank).
Our customers satisfaction is of the utmost importance. If you require assistance, have any questions about your subscription, or are simply not sure how to proceed, please visit our FAQ section or contact us.

View ArticleThe FCRA, or the Fair Credit Reporting Act, is the piece of U.S. Federal Government legislation regulating the collection, circulation, and use of consumer information. In other words, it determines who can access your information and how that information can be used, with the goal of ensuring that the most accurate information is available.
The FCRA dictates that only Consumer Reporting Agencies (CRAs) can be consulted when making employment, credit, or tenant screening decisions. These organizations are required to operate under two conditions: they must provide notice that they will be accessing your public or private records information, and must disclose who provided the information upon request. Examples of people who would require the services of a CRA are employers, landlords, and mortgage brokers, among others.
For additional information, you can inform yourself about the FCRA here.
How does the FCRA affect you?
BeenVerified.com is not a Consumer Reporting Agency. BeenVerified was created for the everyday consumer to have similar access to some of the information CRAs can provide to search for themselves and others. Therefore, FCRA restricts how and why you can use the site, as the data available through public records can contain inaccuracies or gaps in digitized or available information. Scroll down to find examples of ways the information BeenVerified provides can and cannot not be used.

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions about our opt-out process. If this FAQ does not answer all of your questions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].
How Does BeenVerified Use the Email Address I Submit Along With My Opt-Out Request?
BeenVerified only uses your email address to send you an email to verify your request to opt out, and, if you choose, to create a BeenVerified Opt-Out account to review the record(s) you have opted out on an ongoing basis. We will not sell the email address that you provide as part of the opt-out process, or use it for any other purpose, without your prior consent.
Do I Have to Be a Member or Create a BeenVerified Opt-Out Account in Order to Opt Out?
No, you do not have to be a member of BeenVerified in order to opt out of our People Search results.
Do I Have to Pay to Remove My Record?
No, you never have to pay for the removal of your own record from BeenVerifieds People Search results.
How Long Does it Take for My Record to Be Removed?
Once you receive our email confirming that we have processed your opt-out request, your request will be reflected in our People Search results the next time our server refreshes. In most cases this will take 24 hours to take effect and then we encourage you to check for yourself.
How Can I Check to See if My Record Was Removed?
Once you have given our servers enough time to refresh (which in most cases wall take 24 hours), simply log onto BeenVerified.com and type your name into People Search. In some cases, you may need to "clear your history" in your browser just in case your computer is storing and recalling information cached prior to the opt-out. We encourage you to check to make sure your record was removed and to contact us at [email protected] if you have any issues.
What if I Find Multiple Records About Me on BeenVerified?
We obtain and regularly update the BeenVerified People Search results with records from several different public and private databases. Although we and our data partners do our best to match these new records to the existing records in our database, there may be times when one of our data partners provides us with a new record about you that is different enough from your existing record for example, containing different spellings, initials, combinations of information, and/or addresses that we cannot match this new record to your existing record. In these instances, a separate record may be created in our database about you, and this new record may appear in our People Search results.Currently, in order to prevent fraud and protect the integrity of our opt-out process, we only permit you to remove one record from our People Search results through our online opt-out process. If you find more than one record about you in our People Search results and would like to remove them all, please contact us at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you.
When I Opt Out, Will Data About Me Ever Reappear on BeenVerified?
Once your opt-out has been processed, we will instruct our data partners not to return the record you opted out in future People Search results. At this time, we only provide an opt-out for our People Search service. Therefore, it is possible that your name might appear in search results for the other search services available through BeenVerified even after you opt out of People Search.Further, as described above, there may be times when one of our data partners provides us with a new record about you that is different enough from your existing, opted out record that we cannot match this new record to the existing record, and therefore cannot conclusively opt out the new record. Accordingly, if you have previously opted out and see a new record about you appear in our People Search results, please contact us at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you remove that record as well.
