Dr. Kin Foong Chan, Ph.D. has been an Executive Vice President of Research and Technology at BioPharmX Corporation since February 17, 2014 and served as its Executive Vice President of Research & Development since February 2014. Dr. Chan serves as Vice President of Engineering at Dermira Inc. Dr. Chan specializes in the application of lasers and optical technologies in medicine & surgery with more than 15 years of R&D and engineering experience. He served as an Executive Vice President of Research & Development at BioPharmX Corporation since February 17, 2014. He served as the Managing Director of Advanced Research at Solta Medical, Inc from 2003 to 2009 where he was Director of Biomedical Engineering, where he helped develop the core technologies for fractional photothermolysis and real-time laser dosage control. He co-developed the first commercial direct-writing microlithography technologies at Ball Semiconductor, Inc from 2000 to 2003. Dr. Chan was trained in electrical, optical and biomedical engineering and is an expert on laser-tissue interaction, biophotonics, ablation dynamics and laser lithotripsy. He is a co-author of more than 40 journal articles, conference proceedings and peer-reviewed abstracts and a co-inventor of more than 20 issued patents or pending patent applications. He is a Fellow of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery and a member of SPIE. Dr. Chan earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
