  • Your official certificate will be available for download through our electronic system upon completing your BridgeTEFL online course. If you have completed one or more of your course components, you can download your certificate now. As you complete the remaining course components that you may have signed up for, your certificate will automatically update to reflect the new number of hours (just re-download your certificate for the updated hours). To protect the authenticity of our certificates, each certificate is imprinted with a unique certificate number (found in the lower right-hand corner of the certificate). To verify the authenticity of a BridgeTEFL certificate, simply enter the number into our Certificate Verification page. The verification results page will indicate the name of the certificate recipient, the qualification he/she received, and the number of hours earned. To find your student ID (unique certificate number), please refer to your Welcome Email (if you haven't completed 100% of your course) or your Completion Email. The Completion Email takes about 10-15 minutes to send after you have completed your final course component.

Instructors in accredited IEP programs in the USA must have at least a bachelors degree and a minimum of 3 months of full-time equivalent ESL or foreign language classroom teaching experience, or a bachelors degree along with a certificate in teaching ESL or a foreign language, that include a practice teaching component. • In most cases, yes. The majority of schools around the world prefer that you have a 4-year college degree; many will not hire a teacher without one. In most locations in Asia—as well as in some other countries—it is a requirement in order to receive a work visa. However, in a few places, teachers without degrees can sometimes qualify to teach English. If you do not have a college degree, it is best to ask about the specific location in which you are interested.

  • No. Some schools do appreciate it if you know the native language, if for no other reason than to be able to handle yourself more comfortably in the environment. In some cases, you may even be offered more money. However, if you've been trained in the Direct Method (the method utilized in BridgeTEFL programs), you should be able to teach English successfully in any country in the world, whether you know the language or not. Furthermore, many schools offer language classes and social activities to help familiarize their teachers with the local culture.

  • Although some schools may require only that you be a native speaker, most institutions prefer to hire teachers with some training. Often the best jobs with the best salaries are reserved for certified teachers. And in an increasingly competitive environment, it's an absolute necessity at certain schools and in certain locations.

  • Some schools offer housing assistance for their teachers. Some actively place teachers in subsidized housing where they live with other foreign teachers. Other schools have a staff member dedicated to helping teachers find accommodation. In many locations, you will be expected to pay for your own transportation to the country, as well as health insurance. However, some schools and programs in Asia provide insurance and reimburse you for your airfare upon completion of a long-term (1 year) contract.

  • Again, this depends greatly on the location in which you are teaching. In Asia, or elsewhere if you work full-time for a public school, you are likely to sign a contract with a guaranteed salary. You should be able to live comfortably on this salary, and maybe even save some money, especially if the organization subsidizes housing. However, in many situations it is difficult to support yourself working for just one school. Teachers usually compensate for this by teaching private classes on the side, working for several schools (if permitted by local visa/contract laws), or having some money saved up before they venture abroad.

  • A lot depends on the location you choose, the cost of living, and how you budget. The higher paying jobs are generally in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. However, the cost of living is generally higher in these locations as well. Some schools in Korea provide housing for teachers, allowing you to save extra money.

  • Absolutely. As explained above, TEFL courses are not uniform in either content or quality. Any person or institution can offer a TEFL training program without regulation or standardization. Thus, one of the best ways to know that you are enrolling in a respectable TEFL course is to check that the institution is externally validated by a reputable accrediting agency. See our ACCET Accreditation page for more information.

  • Whether you choose a CELTA, IDELT™, TEFL, TESOL, TESL or online course, you should know that all six programs are internationally recognized, all prepare you for a teaching position overseas, and all are good for life. There are, however, several significant differences among them. Cambridge CELTA The Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is the most widely recognized international teacher qualification. The CELTA is a standardized teacher preparation program, so no matter where you take the course, it is more or less the same. If you have a CELTA certificate, prospective employers know exactly what to expect in terms of your training. CELTA requires a minimum of six hours teaching practice time, a minimum of six hours of observation, four assignments, a pre-interview task, an interview in the application process, and a pre-course task once you are accepted. Bridge IDELT™ The Bridge IDELT™ (International Diploma in English Language Teaching) is BridgeTEFL's flagship certification course. It is standardized and only run at BridgeTEFL Authorized Training Centers. The program is recognized by the State University of New York's National PONSI, and is recommended for 6 graduate-level credits at over 1,500 American universities. The course is 140-hours over four weeks, and includes a minimum of six hours of teaching practice with real Enlish learners. The Bridge IDELT™ will qualify you for hundreds of teaching jobs worldwide. TEFL TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) courses are also teacher preparation certificate programs, but they are not standardized. Therefore, when evaluating an onsite or online TEFL course, it’s important to do your research. First of all, you want to be sure that the institution is accredited and that this information is stated on your certificate. Another helpful check is to find out how long the institution has been in the language business. Bridge-Linguatec has over 20 years of experience and is accredited by ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training), a U.S. Department of Education-recognized agency. Our BridgeTEFL programs have been approved by ACCET. Finally, the best way to be sure a TEFL course meets your needs is to ask the relevant questions, whether these involve practice teaching hours, the possibility of live or video observations, the amount of homework expected, or the number of written assignments required. TESOL and TESL TESOL (Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages) or TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) courses are not standardized either and are usually offered through universities. Online TEFL Cost and convenience are the advantages of online TEFL certificate programs. The courses can be completed from any computer anywhere in the world and usually cost a fraction of on-site programs. However, the real-world experience of observing and/or teaching authentic language classes is not possible in most online courses. If spending a month in another city or paying the tuition of an on-site course is not feasible for you, an online program is your best option. Online programs are likewise a good choice if you are unsure about teaching as a career and are not ready to invest the time and money in a regular TEFL course. Like on-site programs, online TEFL courses are not standardized and you need to do your homework. For help identifying a good online course, read the next FAQ.

  • There are a number of things you should ask when evaluating an online TEFL course. Is the school accredited? Is the organization an established institution in the language business? Does the school have a physical location where you can contact program administrators? Are the tutors professionals with experience in the field? What kind of interaction do online students have with these tutors? Does the school provide testimonials or recommendations from program graduates?

  • Although a few schools in some parts of the world may require only that you be a native speaker, most institutions prefer to hire teachers with a 4-year college degree and some TEFL training. In an increasingly competitive environment, it's an absolute necessity at some schools. In any case, having a CELTA or TEFL certificate on your resume will make the difference between you and another native English speaker, and can increase your chances of working at a better school and/or receiving a higher salary.

  • No. TEFL courses have different requirements for language proficiency. In order to enroll in a CELTA, IDELT™, or TEFL course at BridgeTEFL, you must have a level of English proficiency that enables you to follow the program and satisfactorily complete course requirements. This is a level at which the applicant makes few to no errors in English and is roughly equivalent to a score of 110 or higher on the TOEFL IBT.

  • Most Amerian school districts require that you be licensed by the state in order to teach in public schools. Some districts, however, are in dire need of ESL teachers and will hire people with a 4-year college degree and a TEFL certificate provided that they are willing to work towards licensure. This often begins as a long-term substitute teaching position.

  • Automatic geolocation

    - Via the point of sale form

Automatic geolocation is based on Google's geolocation algorithm.

This allows you to obtain from the address of the point of sale (street and street number), the geographical coordinates of the point of sale (latitude and longitude).

    - Via the import process

If the imported points of sale do not have latitude/longitude, they are automatically geolocated by Google's algorithm.

    Manual geolocation

    - Via the point of sale form

By entering a latitude and longitude in the Geolocation section and choosing the "Manual" option.

    - Via the import

As soon as the points of sale are imported with latitude and longitude, the geolocation of the point of sale is based on them. The points of sale are then placed in "manual geolocation" mode.

Change the geolocation mode in BRIDGE

    - Via the point of sale form

In the Geolocation section, it is possible to switch from the Manual Geolocation option to Automatic and vice versa.

    - Via the import

It is not currently possible to switch from manual to automatic geolocation via import.

On the other hand, by entering latitudes/longitudes via import, it is possible to switch from automatic geolocation to manual geolocation.

The meaning of geolocation qualities in the export of points of sale (Beta mode)

The quality of geolocation of points of sale is returned by Google. This allows you to get an overview of the coordinates initially entered for each of them.

The geolocation qualities are as follows :

"ROOFTOP" indicates that the returned result is a precise position for which we have precise location information up to the exact street address.

"RANGE_INTERPOLATED" indicates that the returned result reflects an approximation (usually on a road) between two specific points (such as intersections).

"GEOMETRIC_CENTER" indicates that the returned result is the geometric center of a result such as a street for example.

"APPROXIMATE" indicates that the returned result is approximate.

"ERROR" indicates that the address entered does not provide geocoding.

Note: This feature is currently in Beta, the quality of the geolocation is not updated when the store coordinates are changed.
