Q&A With Built In Employees

Asked to all employees at Built In

  • What makes me most proud about working at Built In is the way we’ve evolved our tech culture while staying true to the company’s mission. When I joined, our engineering org was still finding its rhythm — a lot of legacy systems, a lot of change. Over the last two years, I’ve seen us mature into a team that builds with intention: we ship faster, we think more critically about scalability and user experience, and we’re not afraid to challenge assumptions. I’m proud that we’ve done that without losing the human side — engineers actually have a voice here. Product and engineering work as partners, not as silos. You can see your work have a direct impact on the business and the community we serve. It’s rare to find a place where technical growth, meaningful work, and team culture align this well.

  • The Engineering team at Built In was incredibly welcoming and supportive when I first joined. They made onboarding feel structured but never overwhelming — there was always someone willing to pair up, explain context, or walk through architecture decisions. It’s a team that genuinely wants new hires to succeed, not just get up to speed.

Asked to all employees at Built In

  • Built In is serious about flexibility — not as a perk, but as a principle. The company trusts people to know when, where, and how they work best. That trust shows up in real ways: fully remote collaboration that actually works, managers who care about outcomes over optics, and a culture that supports life outside of work without apology.

Asked to the Engineering Department at Built In

  • Working on the engineering team at Built In is a genuinely rewarding experience. The team operates with a strong sense of ownership — engineers are trusted to solve real problems, not just implement tickets. There’s a bias toward learning, experimentation, and measurable impact rather than process for its own sake. The culture balances autonomy with support: product and design are deeply collaborative partners, but engineers have real influence in shaping what we build and why.
