He has been a Director of Ciena Corporation. since October 2000. He served as a Director at Avaya Holdings Corp. He serves as a Director for the American Electronics Association. Mr. Smith is a member of the President's National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, the Global Information Infrastructure Commission and the Center for Corporate Innovation (CCI). Mr. Smith received his master's in business administration from Ashridge Management College, United Kingdom.
