Executive Bio

Mr. Stephen B. Alexander, also known as Steve, has been Chief Technology Officer of CIENA Corp. since September 1998 and has been its Senior Vice President since January 2000. Mr. Alexander served as Senior Vice President of Products & Technology at CIENA Corp. since November 2005 and its General Manager of Transport & Switching since October 2004. He served as General Manager of Transport and Switching Group & Data Networking Group of CIENA Corp. until 2005. Mr. Alexander served as CIENA's Vice President and Chief Technology Officer from September 1998 to January 2000 and as Vice President of Transport Products and Director of Lightwave Systems from September 1996 to August 1998. Mr. Alexander joined Ciena in 1994. Since 1982 Mr. Alexander was employed at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, where he last held the position of Assistant Leader of the Optical Communications Technology Group. Mr. Alexander served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Lightwave Technology and was a General Chairman of the conference on Optical Fiber Communication (OFC) in 1997. He has been Member of Technology Advisory Council of CIENA Corp. since April 14,2005. He serves as a Member of Technology Advisory Council at Federal Communications Commission. Mr. Alexander received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
