Gary S. Rivenes — Executive at Cloud Peak Energy

Mr. Gary S. Rivenes served as the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Cloud Peak Energy Inc. (alternate name Cloud Peak Coal) from October 2009 to January 18, 2018. Mr. Rivenes served as the Vice President of Operations at Rio Tinto Energy America Inc. since January 2008. He served as an Acting Vice President of Operations at Rio Tinto Energy America, Inc. from January 2008 to November 2008. He was responsible for all Rio Tinto Energy America (RTEA) operating mines as well as the site-based technical and maintenance groups. He served as the Vice President of Operations at Cloud Peak Energy Inc. from December 2008 to November 2008. He began his career with Rio Tinto Energy America in 1992 and has worked in the mining industry at several locations and within various disciplines with significant experience in engineering, production and mine management. Over the past 17 years, he has served such positions as Mining Engineer, Production Supervisor, Production Planner/Engineer, Operations Supervisor and Technical Services Manager at RTEA's Antelope, Colowyo and Jacobs Ranch Mines. From September 2007 to December 2007, he served as General Manager for RTEA's Jacobs Ranch mine and RTEA's Antelope mine from October 2006 to September 2007 and served as Manager, Mine Operations for RTEA's Antelope mine from November 2003 to September 2006. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from Montana College of Mineral, Science & Technology.
